Cheapish SLS free shampoo

I'd been using the Aubrey organics rosemary one but paying £12 a bottle is paining me.
SLSs give me an awful itchy flakey scalp. So I googled a lot and found the organics range (now called OGX). It seemed a bit suspiciously foamy, but hey. Anyway, a few washes later, flakey head is back and I guess even though it's technically SLS free the ingredient Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate is having the same effect. I should have looked at the ingredients more carefully rather than relying on lists of 'best SLS free shampoos'.

So, anyone use anything else that is free of SLS (and variations of) and not £12?

The yes to... range?

(Although the yes to carrots dry scalp the I use might have sodium coco sulphate, or maybe I'm confusing it with something else)

Happy Hair range from Sainsbury seems OK for my scalp. About £3.99 a bottle, sometimeso on sale.
Green people are good at about £9/10 per tube.
Faith in Nature have a large range.

L'Oréal Eversleek destroyed my scalp as did Tresemme naturals.

Don't know about you but silicones irritate my scalp too. I often do a final rinse with a vinegarange mix and gives great shine and eases the itchiness.

I use one from Asda for £2 it's called Olive Girls and is Sulphate free is that's what you're after? I used all the expensive ones as I have extensions and need sulphate free. That's the best one. Smile

Bubble2bubble · 02/12/2016 08:10

Faith in Nature is good value - usually around £5 for a big bottle.

squoosh · 02/12/2016 08:13

The Body Shop do one, thinks it's the Rainforest range. Would be pretty cheap if bought during one of their frequent 40% off sales.

RoganJosh · 02/12/2016 08:15

Brilliant, I hadn't even heard of most of these. Thank you!

Happy Naturals is nice and has a good range for different hair types. Sainsburys sell it (not sure if it's anywhere else) it's on offer often enough I usually have more bottles waiting than I realise Blush

Dulcimena · 02/12/2016 08:48

I use loreal ever riche, usually on offer somewhere.

LuckySantangelo1 · 02/12/2016 08:49

Faith in nature. On sale in oxfam about £5 a bottle.

SarahOoo · 02/12/2016 09:02

As above....

Happy Hair Days from Sainsburys £4
Kind Natured (can get this from Boots)
Any shampoo from Holland & Barrett. Currently using their Dr Organics Vitimain E one as it's the only one that doesn't take me gag (weird pregnancy thing!)

PandasRock · 02/12/2016 09:03

Urtekram is cheap and skin friendly

The Avelon Organics range is about £5 a bottle. I like these. Prior to discovering them I was paying £16 for each of shampoo and conditioner which just is not sustainable!

Shenanagins · 02/12/2016 18:32

I am using herbal essence naked. And not surprisingly not quite as good as my mega expensive pureology one is a good substitute.

Doobigetta · 02/12/2016 19:21

I don't think L'Oreal Ever Riche is SLS-free. It doesn't have silicone or parabens, but it still foams, and as far as I know SLS is the only way to do that.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 02/12/2016 19:22

I've got a Boots Botanics one that is SLS free

hecallsmebunny · 02/12/2016 20:02

There's a brand called Jason that's very reasonable - after using the sea kelp shampoo and conditioner for a while my hair felt dry but not sure if that was pregnancy/breastfeeding reated as DH uses and his hair is still nice! Have a look on some natural/organic specialist sites e.g. mypure.co.uk for other ideas. TK Maxx sometimes have big bottles of nice "free from" ones as well.

theeyeofthetigerbread · 02/12/2016 20:09

I use Yes To Blueberries - I get it from Boots and it's often cheaper than Pantene etc. Like pp I have tried so so many expensive options and it does a great job. I have curly hair so just use the conditioner, no shampoo, but I assume the whole range is decent.

Pancakeflipper · 02/12/2016 20:11

I like the Happy shampoo. I get an awful irritated scalp with SLS's but fine with this brand. Thinks there's some nasties in their conditioner but not the shampoo?

shatteredstudentmum · 02/12/2016 20:33

I use diva curl as I avoid silicone as well. It does cost a bit but the bottle is enormous and lasts months

WhiteHairReally · 02/12/2016 21:01

Happy Naturals is on offer in the biggish Sainsbury's near us at the mo. £2.50 per bottle across the whole range.

Faith in Nature can be really cheap. I bought a five ltr Lavender and Geranium shampoo for £25 earlier this year at Amazon Shock.

FiddleFigs · 02/12/2016 21:08

I like the Kind Natured range from Boots - about £5 a bottle.
