M&S school trousers - how long would you expect them to last?

The metal bar and hook has broken after 3 mths wear - it is worth trying to take them back?

I bought online but customer services say I have to return them to a shop

Don't some school trousers come with a guarante they will last? Might be worth taking them back. The worst your going to get is 'there's nothing we can do'

I don't know how my mum did it but I had two school skirts for the entirety of high school. Were things indestructible in the 90s?

bigTillyMint · 01/12/2016 12:31

DSs (15) last at least a year. More likely to go on the knee or something - I've never known a fastening to go. I am assuming they are not tight on the waist?

Waggamamma · 01/12/2016 12:48

Asda have 100day guarantee on school uniform. I'd expect m&s to have similar.

AveEldon · 01/12/2016 12:53

Not tight on the waist - they have those adjustable elastics at the back

My son and daughter have both worn them, they have always lasted until they have grown out of them and have never worn out though they regularly abused their trousers

Oblomov16 · 01/12/2016 13:35

I've been buying M&S trousers and shorts for school for the last 8 years. They used to be a lot better, better quality. Last couple of years poor. Ds1's have fallen apart ....(reminds myself to go onto M&S right after posting this and order some more). Reflective of the whole of M&S me thinks?

Angelitron · 01/12/2016 13:40

Always last a year, then he grows and we pass them on looking like new.

squiz81 · 01/12/2016 16:08

I would return them. Their trousers cost about 3 times the amount of supermarket ones, I'd expect better!

LIZS · 01/12/2016 16:12

Never had a problem until outgrown . Can't you stitch it back on?

rubyshoes3 · 01/12/2016 16:50

Mine last the year or until they outgrow them. I find even after a years wear they still look like new. I would take them back.

AveEldon · 01/12/2016 21:25

The hook thing is kind of riveted on so I can't repair it

DelphiniumBlue · 01/12/2016 21:38

If it's not repairable because of the rivet thing, I'd definitely take take it back.
I 've got 3 boys, and expect school trousers to last an academic year.

WhooooAmI24601 · 01/12/2016 22:10

Take them back. M&S trousers get out-grown in our house not destroyed (a first for two grotty football-mad boys who are hard on all their clothes). I've never known anything from M&S kids range break or wear through.

AveEldon · 02/12/2016 06:46

Thanks, I will take them back.
