Shoes for dance lessons?

DH has finally buckled and agreed to do some dance lessons. I know you're not supposed to wear shoes with rubber soles, but what kind of shoes are suitable? I don't exactly have suede soled dance pumps.
Would normal heels be ok? And for DH, normal wedding shoes?

For ballroom? Normal heels should be ok, but not too high. 2-3" inches rather than 6! Normal shoes for your husband will be fine.

Thanks. I am a mid-heel with straps kinda gal anyway, so I think I should have a pair suitable.

If you get really into it do think about buying dance shoes - they make turning and spinning much easier

This may sound lazy but when in doubt wear Grecian sandals or jazz ballet shoes. You need to avoid rubber soles not just because they can stain wooden floors but also because they lack the limited 'slip' that you need when turning, so increasing the risk of damage to your knees. High heels should always be avoided if you don't know the venue as some historic buildings have very delicate sprung floors and the owners don't want a repeat of the damage that was done during the 1950s by women wearing stiletto heels.
