I need basic help with makeup!

I've never worn much makeup but now I'm over 50 and I need to look better! I think I need a lesson in how to do a basic everyday look and I wondered about a department store tutorial session? I'm quite happy to pay and to buy products but I want an age-appropriate experience and to leave being able to replicate the look. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm nearest to Birmingham.

John Lewis in Touchwood Solihull has a lovely Estee Lauder counter, and a great Chanel counter. Both will offer advice/suggestions, and the Selfridges beauty dept in the Bullring is also cracking. I'm not keen on the MAC counter as they favour quite heavy, dramatic looks, but Bobbi Brown is amazing.

I'd recommend a Bobbi brown counter.. if you can find one.

I told them I wanted to look myself but like a better version - and that's what they showed me. They have lots and lots of foundation colours and they found me my perfect match after many years of trying to match myself.

On the day, I only bought the foundation and blusher, but I have been back and bought other things - they've always shown me how to put on whatever I'm buying.

It's better to book in case they are busy.

Another vote for Bobbi Brown. I've booked sessions with them for a make over before and always been happy with the result ( I can't always say that about Mac). I've always been happy with their products and have found the staff very keen to help. I've often ended up getting little mini makeovers when I've been shopping at a quiet time. They're not cheap but you don't need to buy everything they use.
