I have lost my fashion mojo.

Boots (ankle, knee), jeans (boot, skinnies), knitwear (chunky, cashmere) etc... I am paralysed with indecision.

Just seeing some pics of normal people might help get me out of this rut.

Does my bum look 40 in this
School gate style
Dress like a mum (for crazy ideas!)

Midlife Chic www.midlifechic.com/ x

BrillianaHarvey · 29/10/2016 12:20

Love doesmybum though I know not everyone does.
Midlifechic - noooo! So depressingly tasteful and age-appropriate.
That'snotmyage is well-written and thoughtful.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 29/10/2016 13:26

Midlifechic woman looks about 60, so not really suitable for a 40 year old. If you're 60 plus go right ahead!

BrillianaHarvey · 29/10/2016 14:44

Exactly- but I don't think she's even 50.

OhYeahMama · 29/10/2016 14:55

I look at pInterest for ideas. But I am also stuck in a rut of skinnies, jumpers and boots....
I'd rather not look like the next person but its hard to look differnt without standing out!

TartyTart · 29/10/2016 19:18

Hi all, yeah I'm early 40s. I didn't know about any of the above so thanks very much! I don't like Pinterest as I find something I like and then can't find it in the shops. Anyhow this has given me inspiration. Thanks!

I like myfashionable40s

I'm 40 and stuck in the same rut!

I like school gate style & often buy some of the things she recommends (mid 40s) stylish but not overly trendy

sortthetacheoutbernard · 29/10/2016 23:36

Myfashionableforties is good as is bum40. Also fashion lift.
I find style guile and school gate style a bit prim and safe.

PickAChew · 29/10/2016 23:40

whatthefox I was about to caution about unkindness, but I actuallyagree with you! Bad hair dye job and bad colour sense are not a good combination there.

Dulcimena · 29/10/2016 23:47

Eve on allwornout is great. Love her style and attitude. Most are a bit boring safe.

user1471545174 · 30/10/2016 00:23

The cardinal sin in middle age is usually the too done-up look. "I'm mad, me" isn't great either. So often I ask myself if the fantasy French/Scandi lady in my head would buy or wear it.

user1471545174 · 30/10/2016 00:25

Not a site, sorry. Maybe I'll start it Smile

Truckingalong · 30/10/2016 05:56

Susiesoso

niceupthedance · 30/10/2016 06:38

The frugality is good

BringMeTea · 30/10/2016 08:06

I agree The Frugality is good but she is about 30 I think. So doesn't preclude the over 40s enjoying it (like me!) but is the OP after an older blogger??

Poor midlifechic. I don't think she looks anywhere near 60 btw. Her style is just rather 'grown up' I think.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 30/10/2016 08:10

Ditch the age - other than for skincare it really doesn't matter.

What sort of looks have you liked in the past?

Remember that unless you're sure a blogger in unpaid, they're probably sponsored so you may well be looking at copy not reality.

A different idea - can you manage a dat out in a major city, and have a cup of coffee in pavement cafes in a few different areas. And people watch?

The pool has some nice fashion bits, also on the spike

BrillianaHarvey · 30/10/2016 09:07

Oh yes, I like The Pool too.

Methenyouplus4 · 30/10/2016 09:29

I'm 34 and really like Midlife Chic; her style is quite consertvative/classic but I like that her blog tracks a journey/style evolution rather than just 'this is me wearing the same thing as every other blogger at the minute and a paid link to it' that is so common now. I also enjoy her insights into other aspects of her life and the fact that she is so transparent.

For style, I like Susie Soso and The Frugality too.

I agree that people watching/pintrest etc are great for inspiration.Instagram can be good too; I am a very different body shape to Holly Willoughby but like her style and she posts what she wears on insta so you can get ideas of brands and adapt ideas for what works for you.

Personally, if starting from 'scratch' I'd go for staples thst suit your style (like a denim shirt, khaki trousers, tan boots etc) -go for classic rather than fashionable in decent quality and then have a play with accessories until you find your style/ what works for your lifestyle.

lisam78 · 30/10/2016 09:40

My midlife fashion is really good

WipsGlitter · 30/10/2016 09:41

Bum40 has a "uniform" but so do list of us / them!
