Are uggs still acceptable?

I know it's not 2008 any more, are uggs still a thing?

Expecting my first baby and my fat preg-legs don't fit in any of my calf/ knee boots.

Uggs look comfy, would fit and easy to get on/ off with a little one.

Should I get some? And if so what colour? I wear a lot of navy and grey...

I like some of the styles. I think they are comfy and cute I'm going to keep wearing and I am v stylish! Grin

queenc81 · 13/10/2016 16:15

How do you manage to get uggs on when pregnant? I can't get down to pull them on anymore Sad

rightknockered · 13/10/2016 16:17

I don't care, I love my Uggs.
Only wear them in the house and quick short trips like school run (by car)

frenchbubble · 13/10/2016 16:20

Never were.

PNGirl · 13/10/2016 16:22

There aren't any alternatives that look better which are as warm and comfortable, which is why they are still around! The closest you get is a normal pair of boots with sheepskin insoles.

I have a few pairs (2 Ugg, 2 Celtic & Co) which I like for late-night supermarket trips, nipping out for a coffee on a Sunday, freezing days in the office at work, etc but I wouldn't go out for a meal in them or take them on a weekend away.

PNGirl · 13/10/2016 16:26

I'm not saying that you can't wear proper leather boots as alternatives and be warm, because you can, but Uggs are basically outdoor slippers so you can't change much about their looks.

BristolLFR · 13/10/2016 16:33

I don't actually have a pair yet, but was thinking of getting some but wanted to check first

ample I have some flat leather knee boots, but can't get my fat legs in them any more. It's more weight gain and loss of definition on previously toned calves rather than water retention, so can't see them fitting that quickly after the baby's born (Dec) either

I still wear mine. They are incredibly comforting.

Middleoftheroad · 13/10/2016 16:47

Ethically? No
Physically? No
Made in an ugly way. Look ugly.

SloanePeterson · 13/10/2016 16:49

I don't think you can go wrong with genuine uggs. I bought my first pair as a student, ooo 12? Years ago when they were definitely very much in fashion. Have loved them ever since. I think it's the knockoffs that ruined people's perceptions of them, the horrible trodden down heel look. Real uggs will never do that. I wear mine pretty steadily throughout every season but summer and have just bought some ugg slippers too. Couldn't give a toss if they're not stylish anymore, I well remember the chilly feet of my converse clad youth and that can go swing.

CocoLoco87 · 13/10/2016 16:50

Yes yes yes! Uggs are ridiculously comfy and mine are waterproof. I have the generic sandy coloured ones and they are so cosy in winter!

I don't have EMU ones but they look good too. I would consider them when I come to replace my UGGS

Middleoftheroad · 13/10/2016 16:52

Every year, millions of sheep are castrated, have part of their tails cut off (some even have their horns hot-branded), and then have their throats slit for their skin, which is what UGG boots are made of. All this—just for the sake of a pair of boots.

OhFuckOff · 13/10/2016 16:54

I've had ugg grandle (I think that's the name) since last year. They are ok, not traditional ugg style. I've had the Bailey button short ones which look quite nice. But I know someone who is as short as me (5ft 2) and she wears the Bailey button ones in long which come to her knee! It looks awful Imo Blush

Pettywoman · 13/10/2016 19:09

I still wear my Costco versions. They're sheepskin and just as good but only £30 something quid. I've had one pair since 2008 and still going strong. They're so warm and comfy I don't want to give up on them.

19Hannah · 13/10/2016 19:13

They are awful looking but I've just bought some new ones that won't leave my feet until at least March! Too comfortable

RebelandaStunner · 13/10/2016 19:23

When it gets too cold for normal boots my uggs come out. So not worn them yet.
I couldn't care if I am judged for wearing them or not. They are warm and comfy and not as bad looking as most of the boots in the threads on here asking;
'Are these boots mums/shite etc?'

My legs are long and thin so no tree trunk look here.

CateGory8 · 13/10/2016 19:35

I have black pair and a brown pair of Uggs and I won't stop wearing them because they are not acceptable. Yes, they are ugly but I love having toasty warm feet.
I've also had EMU boots and they are terrible quality. Although they are warm they soon lose shape and your foot starts to migrate in or out. I also wore out a hole on the top of my EMU boots with my big toe! My Uggs are older than my EMU's and are still in excellent condition.

I inherited a pair from my mum who bought them and didn't like them - I wear them as slippers mainly, but fine for nipping out for milk or whatever. I actually bought big insoles from the Celtic Sheepskin Co a few weeks back to go in them as they'd become flattened and not as cosy inside.

Nearlyadoctor · 13/10/2016 20:54

I love mine and have just asked for a pair of the Mini ll ones for Christmas, I wouldn't wear them out anywhere smart, but they have a real feel good snugly factor about them! Just what you need when pregnant and running around with a new baby. I also think they look OK with leggings which may be a factor in the early days post pregnancy.

taggies · 13/10/2016 21:15

Uggs have never and will never be acceptable. For so many reasons.

dirtyprettything · 13/10/2016 21:17

Bought a pair in 2008 and they still look like new, bloody good buy!
I have reynauds and get very cold feet but they always feel great in uggs. I drive to work in them and then change into heels.

I wore them in Chicago last year at -17 and my feet still felt fine

BristolLFR · 13/10/2016 22:32

Wow, the marmite of the shoe world it appears, what have I started?!

OP posts:
CakeNinja · 13/10/2016 22:55

They are a shoe critics divider, much like crocs!
My dad bought me a pair years ago, the tall brown ones.
He just thought I'd like them for some reason.
I found them completely impractical - not waterproof, no arch support whatsoever so my feet were sliding around with every footstep, look like slippers because they ARE slippers, I wore them a couple of times then gave them to my goddaughter.
But if you can get them on, they will keep your feet very warm (if completely unsupported and not dry!). Basically, when you're pg, and at any time in life really, if you like them and they're suitable for you, wear what you want.
