Hair cut without blow dry

I'm a bit short on pennies at the moment but my hair desperately needs a cut. My hairdresser usually charges £48 for a cut and blow dry. I was thinking of just getting a wet cut. How much cheaper will it be do you think?

Thanks! (I am too embarrassed to phone and ask 😳)

I expect you'll save £12-£17 if you just ask for a rough dry. It's £20 less at the salon I go to, where I pay about £70 for half head of highlights. It always seems to rain the second I leave a salon after a blow dry so I very rarely bother Grin

Dame So why are hairdressers likely to refuse to do a dry cut other than the reason I gave, because you haven't actually said.

My hairdresser asks me to wash my hair at home and then go straight to her with wet hair. She will then just do a cut and quick blast with the hairdryer. £20 no frills in South London.

I have straight hair and maybe that is easier.

I hate how my hair gets styled so I now have a dry cut. Had one today. 19 quid instead of 35. Why are you embarrassed to phone and ask?

princessconsuelabannahammock · 10/10/2016 14:14

I do this. I am skint and refuse to pay £12 for them to dry it. I just tell them when I book. My regular hairdresser doesn't even offer anymore.

Buttered- probably because it's easier (and nicer!) to cut freshly washed hair rather than hair that's just had a spritz with a water spray.

A professional hairdresser would have no problem cutting wet or dry hair.
A hairdresser worth their salt should not be forcing or refusing to cut someones hair due to the fact they prefer not to have their hair washed or blow dried.

I never pay for the blow dry. Waste of money if you ask me. I pay £16 for a wet cut and have been perfectly happy with this arrangement for the past 10 years or so. Hairdresser towels it off and the only bad thing is she's next to waitrose so sometimes I pop in there on the way back with half-wet hair but I'm not the type to easily get embarrassed.

maggiethemagpie · 10/10/2016 17:24

Dame Diazepam that makes no sense - the blow dry is AFTER the cut so of course the cut can be done properly! They may not want people walking out with wet hair because it spoils their image, or means they can't charge as much, but it's not because they can't cut the hair properly.

I'm skint too and autistic (so hate the noise/atmosphere of being in a trendy salon) so I'll give my local adult education college's salon another whirl Smile

DerelictMyBalls · 10/10/2016 18:54

Seriously, some salons won't let you leave with wet hair? Cheeky sods!

OCSockOrphanage · 10/10/2016 20:40

I hate my hair styled, so refuse to let anyone near my barnet with a dryer. I have short hair and curls. so it inflates the size (and invariably seems to make the cut old lady-ish). My hairdresser cuts it wet, then rough dries it/handles it to near dry, then finishes cutting when the curl reforms. It is the only way to get a cut that looks similar when I wash my hair at home. But my hairdresser is talented, highly skilled and experienced and does not use blow drying as a short cut to passing off a mediocre cut as good. The art is in the cutting, never the drying.

I commented up thread - £20 without the blow dry - that is £35 with- but my hairdresser still washes and conditions my hair (and weirdly dries it a bit as well so I don't go off with really wet hair ). staggered at some of prices - mind you I have paid more in past but local salon just a small 2 woman place
