I need new foundation...what's good?

I have been using two Maybelline ones mixed together to get the right tone, and allow for seasonal tone changes.

But they're running out! And I fancy something new.

So...I like a medium coverage, as I need evening up on my chin in particular. Not fussed on finish, to a max price of £30ish. I can't really get to a Mac, Bobbi Brown type counter very easily.

What's good at the moment?

Maybelline 'better skin' seems to live up to its name! I have the infamous draw, containing Charlotte tilbury, Chanel, Armani, nars, bb..... Many others, but I ALWAYS reach for this one.

Clinique superbalanced, it covers really well without looking or feeling too heavy, why not pop into Debenhams/Selfridges/anywhere with make up counters and get a bit of advice and a few samples?

Laura Mercier or (my fave) Bare Minerals tinted moisturiser. Doesn't look like you're wearing foundation! Just looks like you have amazing skin.

Beautifullymixed · 08/10/2016 10:35

Love no7 stay perfect.
So creamy, can be layered for extra coverage, yet thinned with a damper beauty sponge too.
Natural looking and so smooth and comfortable on my skin.

Another Bare Minerals fan, I don't like heavy or obvious foundation and the BM tinted hydrating gel cream applied with a brush makes me look like me, only better!

mumsnit · 08/10/2016 14:17

Is No 7 Stay Perfect any good for an oily T zone? Gosh I wish I could find something that controls my constantly shiny Rudolph the reindeer nose Blush

I've been loving Body Shop CC cream over the summer but now the slighttan is fading I need something more serious Grin

Beautifullymixed · 08/10/2016 15:00

You have to take steps to control the oiliness with no7 stay perfect.
I use over a serum instead of a moisturiser, use a primer for long days, and use setting powder on top (Coty airspun, W7 banana dreams or even baby powder).
Have to blot at lunch time too, but I like the finish more than no7 beautifully matte, and the creaminess of the application.

dovesong · 08/10/2016 15:06

mumsnit, I used no 7's mattifying foundation for my oily skin - I also use blotting papers during the day which are my absolute saviours! And translucent powder after I've put my makeup on. Takes a lot to look pleasantly dewy instead of horrifyingly slick. But yes, seconding no7!

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 15:20

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser is good.

mumsnit · 08/10/2016 15:56

Thank you Beautifullymixed and Dovesong Smile

Face Atelier from Cult Beauty or Amazon

I've tried a lot and what I'm currently using is brilliant and there's no going back!; Guerlain Parure Gold.

Expensive but nothing I've ever used is at good as this.

LastBusHome · 08/10/2016 16:41

Another BareMinerals fan here. Don't be fooled by the fact it's powder - apply it properly with a good brush and you'll get great coverage. Looks natural and is supposed to be better for the skin.

witsender · 08/10/2016 19:58

I'm always tempted by the powder foundation. What's it like on the odd dry patch?

I use Clarins BB. I'm over 50 and it gives a lovely coverage and doesn't seem to make me look older. It's "dewy" which I prefer to matt, so I don't end up looking lifeless!

suze28 · 08/10/2016 20:03

I love my bareMinerals original powder foundation but am lucky that I don't have dry skin.
It's very natural looking but you can build up the coverage and it doesn't sit in any fine lines on my face.
I am tempted by the L'Oréal True Match though and am going to buy some.
Also very lovely is Lancome Teint Miracle foundation if you want a liquid.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 10/10/2016 07:24

Oh yes, don't try BM if you are dry! I scared even myself looking in the mirror. Kind of a tango'd Dame Edna meets Barbara Cartland. Grin
