Help me please! I need a hand cream for my burnt and dry hands

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but hey! I've got tiny twins in NICU and after two weeks of washing my hands 1000 times a day, and using antibacterial gel, and burning my f@£@!£cking hands when sterilising my expressing experiment up to 10 times a day, my hands are really, really, really dry and red and sore. I normally use Nivea for everything but it stings:-(

Which hand cream can I use for my burnt dry hands that will soothe them? Ideally it needs to be available in Boots (or similar) as I can't travel far (babies in NICU and can't drive post section). Or order online I suppose!

Oh, and ideally it won't cost a silly amount of money, though I am willing to treat myself (well, my body!) after everything it has been through recently!

Oh, I missed the Boots bit, sorry! Norweigan formula is pretty good, but if you can get somebody to bring you the hemp one, or even some lasinoh would probably really good and definitely wouldn't sting.

Vitamin E if they are very bad use the oil.

Eucerin 5% urea handcream is the business for really dry hands, and I would think it would be gentle enough for burns. Spenny though!

Have you developed eczema from all the hand washing? I did after my DD was born, so I also needed a steroid cream. I get that and the Eucerin on prescription from the GP as it's eczema, so it saves me a few £.

Thanks guys! Perhaps I could order the body shop one online? I do actually have lasinoh at hand (for my nipples) so can try that, but I hate the greasy feeling it leaves. If I out it on it makes everything I touch greasy! I guess I could try it at night?

Where do I get vitamin E from? And is that a cream?

Extra virgin Coconut oil. It's v rich and also antiseptic so heals burns.

Or that calendula cream that you put on you nipples when they crack. The midwife gave me this for my hands when my twins were in hospital.

Aveeno - available from most supermarkets. A miracle cream.

There is one in blue and white pot from boots, forgotten the name. Or thE oil from boots or some health food shops. Be careful what you use, even with gloves some will get on the DTs. And congratulations

I'd suggest Diprobase cream.
I've been using it for a while - I got some kind of super dry skin, bordering on eczema, after washing my hands/washing up loads. No other cream helped at all.
This one sorts my hands out instantly when they're getting really dry, and the thing that looked like eczema is gone.

You can get a small 50g tube in Boots for £5 (currently on offer for £4 online, not sure if it's on offer in-store as well).

I've had that, my hands would crack and bleed from too much washing. This is the best hand cream I've ever used, non greasy and healed my hands.

I was going to sugges coconut oil. Magic stuff and a little pot lasts for ages!

My suggestion is Bepanthen. Works on the sorest areas of my constantly raw hands (HCP)!
Also you'll probably be able to find it easily, might even be on the NICU. Or you might have some already!

O'Keefe's working hand cream.

I buy it if Amazon, and it's the only thing I can use in the winter that actually stops my finger pads from splitting open. Bloody brilliant stuff.

Sudocrem is good for burns.

When I had red cracked hands after a hospital stay with both DC I used aqueous cream to wash them - wet your hands, scoop a bit out of the tub and use like liquid soap. It's not completely antibacterial but is an acceptable soap substitute if you have eczema. I found it really helped settle my hands down - hand cream alone wouldn't do it.

My hands go awful in the winter. Itching, stinging, splitting you name it. Have tried so much but o'keefes or body shop hemp cream works wonders. Always body shop promo codes about too

Flexitol hand balm or cuticle cream is really good. It is the only thing that really worked for me. It may be too heavy to put on after every wash, but if you have another for that and use the Flexitol a couple of times a day it will help a lot.

Working hands cream is great!! If it's not available in your local pharmacy Amazon do great deals. Bodyshop hemp, Cicaplast and Clarins hand cream have all worked for me.

Oh, and think about getting some packs of vinyl/nitrile gloves. They are thin enough to do anything you need some feeling for, but will save your hands from too much washing.

I was going to suggest gloves too, but thin cotton ones. You could put some cream on and then wear the cotton gloves for a while. It seals the cream and it stops everything you touch getting greasy.
