Received a voucher for a colour analysis consultation with 'colour me beautiful' (very excited!). Has anyone had an appointment with their Cambridge consultant Avril Iles? I live in Cambridge but would be happy to travel a bit if someone wasn't very happy with her or was very happy with someone else in the area. I really want this to be a life-changing experience! Thanks.

Hi there,
I live in Ireland so am no use to you re this particular lady, but must just advise you that initially you'll find the whole thing a total pain in the bum, cos if you're anything like me, you'll feel like you should chuck out your entire wardrobe. I had one item that was the correct colour.
Also, initially you'll find shopping a nightmare, cos you'll be trying to match everything up to the exact shade in your little swatch book.
Now, 3 years later, I'm delighted I did it and my wardrobe bar a few tiny bits, is pretty much the right colours.
Good luck, you'll be gorgeous !
Rx

don't know Cambridge either but was also delighted with mine (Mum gave it to me as 30th birthday pressie) and still find it very useful.
It will be a life changing experience! Have fun

LaCerbiatta · 07/02/2007 11:17

Realy looking forward to it now! I'm sure my whole wardrobe is wrong as well. I have loads of black and grey which will probably turn out to be completely wrong. I also have a winter coat that my husband gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago that I think has a beautiful really flattering cut but I just can't wear it because of the colour: it's a greenish pale blue, maybe it's called aqua? Everytime i put it on I feel like I'm wearing a bath robe.... I'm hoping I'll be told it's my best colour! (I have olive skin, hazel eyes and dark hair usually with a bit of auburn dye in it, if anyone has any ideas...)

What's winter and what colours are you, floatinginspace?
I think brown suits me and I don't think I suit pastels either, but other than that I really don't know... I try putting different coloured clothes next to my skin to see what looks good but just can't work it out... I always feel good in navy, I have a feeling it's going to be a wrong one though...

Oooh I want this done! When are you going tugamommy? You must update us on how it went!

LaCerbiatta · 07/02/2007 11:50

It wasn't that expensive. Dh got it from lastminute.com for £65 I think, a lot cheaper than directly from the colour me beautiful website.
I'll be going as soon as possible, I'm waiting to be sent the contacts for the consultants and then I'll have to make an appointment. I don't know how busy they are and how long that takes. I'll keep you posted!

Anyone else outhere with the same skin / eye colours as me who knows what suits them?

I will watch this with interest as I have the same colouring as you and have no idea what colours suit , always get paid compliments when I wear red though.

LaCerbiatta · 07/02/2007 12:00

Yes, I think red is a good one. I also think petrol blue suits me. Do you ever wear that curlysmum? I only have a scarf. It's not always easy to find clothes in a particular color if it's not in fashion...

Tugamommy, suprised you suit navy and brown. Basically it is to with how much blue or yellow you have in your skin. If you suit brown you will have a yellow based skin, and if you suit navy you will have a blue based skin.

The best test to find out are: Do you look better in white or cream? If white you will have a blue based skin and suit all blue based colours. If cream you will suit all yellow/orange based colours. You can also try putting a pice of white paper against your skin.

I find a good guide is what colour jewellry do you tend to go for. I don't like gold and never have, but do like silver. I am a summer, cool based colours ergo silver!

I'm a textile teacher, and sometimes discuss this with Y11 girls. They go absolutely barmy for it!

Tommy · 07/02/2007 13:31

what I find is that you have to buy all your clotehs in the season that you are IYSWIM. I'm a Spring so I find that all the pastelly things, that hopefully will be coming into the shops soon, tend to suit me. It is difficult to but clothes out of your season though I find - e.g. in Winter, all the clothes are red and black - neither of which suit me!

I found it all very interesting which suprised me as I'm not really that bothered about clothes on the whole!

curlysmum · 07/02/2007 14:16

no never tried the petrol blue but have got to get away from black , and grey and be a bit more daring

fizzbuzz · 07/02/2007 14:21

What I want to know is, who on earth suits all those acid yellow around at the moment. They make me look ill!

coggy · 07/02/2007 14:22

Colour me Beautiful revised it's seasonal descriptions last year because it wasn't really relevant to the Southern hemisphere.
A usual colour analysis would cost £65 - £75 but the ones for sale on the website also include cosmetics.

Sometimes there are swatches on eBay is you lknow what your colouring is.
I hope that you enjoy your session.......it makes a MASSIVE difference to the way you look and dress and also gives you the confidence to go for shades that maybe you never normally would.

poppynic · 07/02/2007 14:27

Hi tugamommy - what fun. I had mine done way back in the 80's and still refer to it. I would guess from your description you are probably a winter - so you will be fine with black (and white) - grey is more often a summer colour although you can probably get away with a darker shade. Winters suit strong blue-based colours, which would be why your lovely coat doesn't suit you - however they will probably tell you to wear it with a suitable scarf or a high "right" coloured neckline underneath to get away with it. I loved my consultation and got asked out(unusual for me) straight afterwards as the consultant made me feel so good about myself. Have fun with your colour book - don't treat it like a jail cell. - Will look forward to hearing about your experience.

LaCerbiatta · 07/02/2007 14:34

I didn't say I suit navy and brown! I said I think I do. I'm probably totally wrong! My skin is definitely yellowish. I've been mistaken for indian before, I don't understand why but it's happenned so many times that there must be something there... maybe it's the yellowish skin tone.
So... that means navy could be totally wrong for me? What a shame... I always thought it made me look smart...
Cpmparing white and cream, I'm not sure what to say... When choosing my wedding dress, I had no doubt in going for cream, thought it was much more flattering. But comparing for example a white t-shirt or shirt with a cream one I would go for white everytime. It's like I feel I don't suit light colors and therefore would not wear cream but white is ok but is like a non color, if that makes sense?
Anyway, will see what I'm told at the appointment!

OP posts:
LaCerbiatta · 07/02/2007 14:42

white is ok because is like a non colour

tugamommy i have been today! went with my sister it was fascinating. if you look yellow in something it does prob mean you are a cool (blue based). prepare to have some very bright lipstick put on i was aghast. but gosh i looked a lot better and have already bought a new scarf and a coupel of vests in right colours on teh way home.

LaCerbiatta · 07/02/2007 15:42

So if my skin tone is yellowish I'm a cool?? Does that mean I suit blues? I look absolutely ghastly in bright or even dark lipsticks!

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 07/02/2007 16:52

Yes you would probabaly suit blues. But blue based doesn't just mean blue, it could mean any colour with a lot of blue in it, or even just a bit.

Eg, crimson, lilac, turquoise, petrol, any colour which is blueish or cool

FloatingInSpace.....what colour eyes do you have?
I'm guessing that if you are a Winter you probably have dark hair?
You could be a clear, cool or deep (depending on hair and eye colour mostly).....the new swatches will have those descriptions rather than the seasons probably.
