Thinking of ditching under eye concealer

Because I've decided it looks even worse than the dark circles. My main problem is tear gouges troughs and sadly, fillers isn't an option.
I've tried every concealer known to man over the years and it still looks like I'm trying to polish a turd. Unsuccessfully.

Does anyone else not bother with concealer?

Don't give up! You will find a concealer to suit you.

I bought Bobbi Brown after having it put on at a counter. However when I got it home and did it myself it looked awful on its own and cakey. It must of been all the other products the MUA applied that his this.

I am currently using Loreal True Match concealer and find this better than some high end products, no cakeyness and it does actually match my colour.

I like Clarins Instant Concealer, it's a similar consistency to foundation and I just pat it on in an inverse triangle shape then use foundation and a light powder over. I don't really notice it when I use it but I notice when I don't if that makes sense as my eyes look all sunken and skullish even with foundation on.

I'm currently using bare minerals stroke of light. I think it's really good and brightens up your eyes as well.

I've been doubling it up as a concealer too, as it doesn't clog up my pores or cause spots.

ProseccoBitch · 04/10/2016 13:38

I only use concealer if I get a spot, never under eyes.

Cellardoor23 · 04/10/2016 13:45

I'm prone to dark circles under my eyes as I have quite pale skin. I have never found anything that matches well. But the bare minerals is the best one I've tried.

I've gone concealer free today and I think it looks better. I dabbed an extra bit of the foundation I'm using (h20 skin tint by pixi, if that counts as foundation?) on the darker bits and it looks much more natural.

Off to Google the price of tear trough fillers.......

I use it sometimes, but the angles of my face mean that no matter how the concealer looks, I have shadows. I've bought so many peachy colours and the best coverage has been a peach cream blusher from Bourjois - however I have to layer foundation over the top and tbh during the day it's a bit much.

I never use concealer otherwise. I do own Laura Mercier secret concealer which is good but again, I'm never going to wear as much as they layer on.

neveradullmoment99 · 04/10/2016 19:05

I use it on and off. The last couple of days i couldnt be bothered with it so went without. Actually i put nothing on my face today except moisturiser, eye make up but no foundation whatsoever. I dont look at myself during the day tbh. I am in the classroom and only go to the toilet and breaks briefly and dont really do much except fix my hair. I didn't think i looked too bad without it.

What does 'bake the undereye' mean Nabootique?

Daydream007 · 04/10/2016 19:18

Try Benefit Fake Up. Not cakey at all.

Kennington · 04/10/2016 22:34

I have stopped using underwhelming concealer too. Just use highlighter instead to smooth and brighten the area.
I don't have bags but undereye area is a purple brown shade.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 05/10/2016 08:00

Try using a peach colour corrector underneath your concealer. Maybelline age rewind or urban decay naked skin are good concealers.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 05/10/2016 08:02

And if you set your concealer with powder and it looks too cakey and you want a natural finish - get a fixing spray like the max fix plus and spray it once you're done putting all your make up on. It'll get rid if the cakeyness

Softkitty2 · 05/10/2016 10:01

For dark circles you need a corrector and then concealer on top. Bobbi brown is highly recommended. My make up application has truly changed since i went to the bobbi brown counter and had the corrector on my under eye.

KittyB52 · 05/10/2016 10:56

I find even creamy concealers go cakey and settle without powder. Is that to do with my skin, or the application of the concealer? I have the Urban Decay concealer but even that looks odd.

The Body Shop used to do a fab concealer that was creamy but not too thick.

poppym12 · 05/10/2016 10:59

For me, the actual grooves are more of a problem than discolouration. Foundation makes the darkness bearable but the tear trough things, pft. I've tred making just that bit lighter to bring it forward. Doesn't work. I've tried peach, yellow, luminous, lighter and darker concealers. They don't help.

I am doomed to looking permanently knackered and old.

Margot It's where you put a thick layer of powder over concealed areas (wherever, but typically under the eye) leave it on for a bit (I don't usually do any longer than 5 minutes, but some people do 20!), then sweep it away with a brush. It sets everything in place more effectively than just brushing over with powder if you have creasing issues. Then if I look too powdery, I do what Shelves says and have a spritz.
