How to stop glitter eye shadow 'sprinkling'.

I have posted before about my intense (and possibly age inappropriate love) for Urban Decays glitter eye shadow. I love the light catching glamourousness of it. What I don't like is the glitter fallout over the day leaving my face liberally spangled with twinkles.

I thought maybe a primer might glue it down so I bought the UD eye primer at the weekend as well as their fixing spray but although my eye makeup still looks great there has been enough glitter fallout that my cheeks look like a Frozen snow globe.

Any reccomendations for a product that will let my eyelids sparkle like a shiny star but not spread over my face, clothes and DH?

Which particular eye shadow? UD eye shadows don't usually have much fall out.

You could use a cream pencil or Mac paint pot to prime the lid and give an extra bit of stickiness. Or you can get fixing gels.

No idea but your description of being spangled with twinkles is awesome.

I have this problem, I think it's the eyeshadow brushes I use, but it's not been a £ priority to research and find alternatives.

So instead I've taken to putting eyeshadow (with the Clarins base cream underneath) on before I do my face foundation and powder. So any "twinkles" that fall below my eyes on my cheeks I just wipe off with a wet wipe.

Acurtis real techniques and wilko all do decent brushes. You need one that's densely packed. Not fluffy.

I love Midnight Cowboy by UD but think it's possibly one of the worst offenders. I've tried all manner of primers and fixers but nothing seems to leave me spangle free. I've given up with the shade as it just isn't worth the glittery fallout

What acurtis1234 said. Do your eyes first. A lot of make up artists do it like that when using glitter or anything dark and heavily pigmented. Or you can hold a tissue under the eye, blend with your other hand and then the fall out will go on the tissue. I use a primer, but it doesn't stop fall out for me.

I apply a pale beige eyeshades on lid ans under brow,dark matte eyeshades in the socket and outer corners, apply eyeliner then using a small brush I apply glitter where I want it. It doesn't transfer.

I only use gold or silver and on special occasions!

Urban decay also do glitter eyeliner!

How about if you dampened your brush or used a bit of Mac mixing medium to apply the eyeshadow? It would be more of an eyeliner effect but might glue the glitter down more.

I saw a make up tip on TV years ago about applying an extra, loosely but generously done layer of face powder onto your cheeks/below your eyes before you apply dark or sparkly eye shadow. Once you've finished your eyes, brush the loose face powder off & any excess eye shadow goes with it. Works for me.

I think it's all about application. When applying dark or glittery eye shadown you have to dab it on and build it up just by dabbing; you can watch youtube videos on how to apply. Also another option is to apply your eyeshadow first and then proceed with the rest of the face

You can always bake your concealer and when you brush off the excess powder it brushes away the fall out.

Yes it's a technique. Not sure why it's called baking. You put a fine powder over the concealer in a thick layer, then brush it away later. It sets your concealer.

I don't get this. I have no idea why. Maybe it's because over my glittery eyeshadow I use a silver Davis eyeliner - some cheap nasty tat that I bought years ago from the market. Ha ha.

Wet the eyeshadow brush before you put it on. You have to keep your eye closed til it dries though! It also gives a more intense colour.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I will start doing eyes first and also try the products recommended. The review on the Debenhams one actually says it works with the Urban Decay palette I have so I am very hopeful!

As is DH who is fed up of getting glitter fall out on his sober city suits.

DH should be glad of a bit of sparkle in his life.
