Where does a bloke get a suit?

Wedding coming up. Bloke: 38, stylish and good at casualwear and smart-casual going out dressing, but not bought or worn in a suit in a long time though and not very well up on what's in/out/otherwise in the suit world. Not skinny trousers, I hope.

Anyway. Wants to look, well, stylish obviously. He owns a suit but - and I know nothing about suits - I can tell this is a very dated model - it doesn't fit well, too loose, no fit or cut to it at all.

So I know what a bad suit looks like. What does one look for when they want a good suit? Where to go - brands, stores? Personal shopper? Are any colours a no no (black, I expect?) Wants to avoid looking too old (so no tweed? :) ) or too young (so no skinny trousers and bold red shades?) but we're both a bit clueless on this topic.

Pinterest has pictures but they don't really help with where to buy such items.

Suit advice please :)

Thanks for all the advice!

I find Debenhams, M&S and Next a bit cheap and frumpy in the womenswear department, to be honest, so I didn't consider them for suits. Do they put a bit more effort into the menswear?

We were thinking of more the Reiss, Ted Baker, Jaegar type brands. Trying to achieve both style and quality. Not risking Primark :) He's tall and slim, so can look very very good in a suit, but as his current oddly-shaped 'wide' suit shows, a bit weird in a loose cut.

Lots to browse, thank you :)

Next has branded ones, Ted Baker, Hugo, Tommy.

DH bought a Hugo Boss last Summer from Next for a wedding we attended in Cannes, and he received lots of compliments

Next do different fittings (slim and regular?) and my DH who isn't a slim in anything else does look good in the Next slim (or maybe it's tailored?).

I wouldn't buy Next clothes for me (the fit for me really doesn't work) and DH doesn't have anything else from Next apart from suits.

The MandS suits didn't take well to repeated dry cleaning (MandS acknowledged the problem was theirs and not the dry cleaning). May not be a problem for you since it's occasional wear rather than daily wear.

Here? (Should be sorted by ascending price so you may need to scroll a page or two before you get to actual suits.)

Edit Suits Co. - they custom make it for you. So much better than a ready made suit that doesn't fit you right. For the price hands down the best.
