How has she done it? With a crimper? I used to crimp my hair in the 90s and I'm pretty sure it never looked like that Confused

Looks nice on you

Hazarding a guess that the hair in the first picture is just naturally like that. My daughter's hair is exactly like that if she just washes and air drys.

Yours looks great. Maybe do the plaits a bit looser next time, and leave it in all night.

It's frizzed out to about double the size since the photo - I don't think I'm supposed to have nice hair

Try some curl cream in the damp plaits. Smoothed the frizz

I need to get some curl cream. My hair is naturally wavy, almost curly, but it's not even all over which is annoying. I was hoping this would give a more defined wave instead of hair chaos, but I think perhaps the problem is not having a good enough product to separate and define the curls.

Ok for hair has a natural curl, you could try using either a sulphate free shampoo, or no shampoo at all. (It's called the no poo method). Then a very think conditioner. Then a curling cream - yet he pink one from boots is cheap as chips. You need to put the product in very wet hair. Then scrunch the product in, all over, and blow dry with diffuser. Not until completely dry. Leave to dry natural.

straighteners. take thick one inch sections of ur hair and starting at the root turn the straightener 45° towards ur scalp then move slightly down the section and flip the straightener 90° the other way and repeat till u get to the tip of ur hair finishing by tucking the ends under.

once all done pick out random 1cm sections and go over to break it up a bit. tip head upside down and spray with hairspray. cover hands with hairspray and run through roots for a bit of volume then spray finished style with salt spray fpr texture.

a better way to describe the straightener technique is move it as if u were making a paper fan.

Oh straightener technique 2

Plait hair and press plaits between straightener plates all the way down. Bit like squashing them flat

I would twist sections of hair together rather than plait them to get a more spiral effect .

blue I did do that for a while, and most of it curled into loose ringlets, but for some reason there would always be a patch that was almost straight - drove me mad! I also found it really hard to keep it untangled/tidy after the first day (I normally only wash once every 5 days or so) and by day 3 it was just a birds nest.
But maybe that was because I wasn't using a curl cream, or using a diffuser (don't have a hairdryer!)

I'll give the straightener methods a go over the week.. I think I know what you mean wow Wink

Wanna I was sort of trying to avoid the spirally look - I do twist bits sometimes and put them into little buns, but it makes my hair so much shorter.

Babyliss wave envy does what you are looking for, it looks like a funny shaped crimper.

Is that that GIANT thing that's like three fingers?

Yes it looks very weird, gives great mermaid hair though.

I use the babyliss deep waves for this effect and love it. Get a good effect from French plaits too but unfortunately that relies on someone else doing it for me as I'm incompetent Blush

My hair is fine but the deep waves gives it volume.
