grey roots touched up

My very dark brown hair has been going grey for 20 years and I've been happily colouring it. However the grey roots along my parting are awful in the 10 days before I get them redone professionally - is there anything I could use to cover them in the last few days just to make it less glaring? I often dab some mascara on them but is there something available that others use?

I bought a type of waxy crayon for root touch up on ebay and a mascara type wand from superdrug and they worked to an extent. After a couple of years I hot fed up with regrowth and recently had it all highlighted light blonde so the grey roots aren't as noticeable. Feel better now.

W7 root cover up from Amazon is fantastic! Its a powder (like an eyeshadow) with a brush and is brilliant.

My mum is asking about this - what happens to those sprays when it rains though? How do you avoid getting them on the pillow too?

PS Oh just in case anyone comments - I have grey hair, I just cba dyeing it.

I fancy trying the sprays, but am not convinced I'll be able to use them without accidentally spraying my face.

I switched to using a semi a few tones lighter than my natural colour - the grey looks like blonde highlights and the regrowth is less obvious.

I've used the Charles Worthington one and it works well. Doesn't come off on the pillow because the pillow goes under my head! I am working on growing out the dye though as I am sick of spending time colouring it.

The Charles Worthington one is really good. Bit crunchy is you spray too much too close.

The spray washes out with warm soapy water - I haven't had any problems with the rain or on my pillow so far.

Same problem here. My hair is silver/grey but dyed purple and the roots show through something rotten!

Exactly the same problem here - I am now trying to go back to henna, which is a throwback to my teenage years. Thankfully Lush henna is much better (and more fragrant) than the powdered stuff I used to use. The theory is that the grey hairs will show up as highlighted streaks, lighter than the base colour and won't be so obvious as it grows out. It has been quite successful so far and I use the L'oreal root spray to camouflage the regrow th to eek it out for as long as possible (as a re-henna takes about four hours!). I've just been reading about grey/silver highlights today though - maybe they are the future!

I use nice and easy root touch up monthly - takes 10 mins
And a brown lipstick shaped crayon for an occasional grey
I also have highlights and the brown bits are ash brown to avoid the dramatic colour change

I had the same problem. My hairdresser dealt with it by adding lighter highlights and then the white regrowth did not show so much. Though over the years to white got more and more, so I looked blonde.

Though in the last year I got fed up with spending so much and having roots and highlights done each time. So we stopped colouring the roots and just did all over ash highlights. I am letting my natural colour come through. It looks better than it has in years.

It's basically like a big eye shadow but it really does the job.

I'm too scared to try the sprays as I'm not sure where it would end up

Clairol root touch up is good and lasts about 3/4 weeks.
