Keeping clothes that will fit once you're in a smaller size?

I used to be a a size 12/14 (more 14) and now I'm a 16.

I ordered two jackets (IT46) thinking that they are equivalent to a 16.

Turns out it's a size smaller.

Now I do intend to go back to my former size and am doing steps to achieve this.

But what to do with the jackets? If I return them, I'm probably going to get store credit - which I don't need. It's a group buying site so they have no stocks for size exchanges.

I like the jackets, I just need to lose a size down. I also got them for a significant discount.

What would you do?

I would return them - get something fabulous that fits you now.

CoolToned · 23/09/2016 21:22

Judy - yeah but they would just probably give me store credit .

I'd keep them if you're fully intent on losing the weight.

ftmsoon · 23/09/2016 21:24

I have a wardrobe and cupboard like this! Am watching with interest.

CoolToned · 23/09/2016 21:25

If it's a refund, I'd return them. I'm having second thoughts because with a store credit, I'd probably blow it buying things I don't like just to consume it.

But what if I don't lose weight?

Yes I am fully intent on losing the weight as it makes me miserable. I know I should be happy with my size now, but fact is, I am not, and I feel happier 1-2 sizes down.

Also the group buying site seldom has items I like.

I'd keep them then, unless there is something else that you like now. You could always sell them on e-bay later if you don't end up using them?

One of my motivators for losing weight is to always have a couple of bits on the go that I am slimming into (not too many as it's depressing), it seems to work well for me among other things as I've managed to loose 4 stone. I did cull a lot of the too small wardrobe as it was all very circa 2004 and not likely to be worn again.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 24/09/2016 08:28

I was keeping clothes for when I had slimmed down into them. Never happened. Or when I did lose three stone I just had a different body shape so they didn't suit me. I've got rid of everything that doesn't fit now because actually opening a wardrobe to clothes I can't wear was as depressing as having a wardrobe of clothes that fit to get by.

BlasianFashionista · 24/09/2016 08:30

I'd keep them, it would give me the motivation to lose weight so I could fit into them Smile

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 24/09/2016 08:43

Send them back. If they don't fit now you can't really see if they suit you, when you find out they don't it's too late. use the credit to buy gifts for other people if they don't have things to your taste. A bargain is only a bargain if you would have been prepared to pay full price for it. Otherwise it's a compromise.

I only buy items that fit at the time. I do keep clothes I've 'grown' out of - we have an attic. I've just lost some weight and am happily unearthing items from before

Racheyg · 24/09/2016 21:09

I've had a few items that I saved for skinny. and now they fit (in not skinny but have lost weight) they don't suit me or they aren't that in fashion.

If they are time less keep them. If they are expensive return them

CoolToned · 25/09/2016 00:02

The items are:

Armani Jeans puffer belted coat
Armani jeans Indigo hoodie-like jacket

Both were bought for around 100 quid
