Removing shoulder pads from a charity shop find.

Is it something an alterations place could do easily enough?

Found a really lovely Paul Costelloe Dressage tweed jacket in a charity shop but the shoulder pads are really full on and make me look like I'm in a All Creatures Great and Small/Miami Vice mashup.

If I have the shoulder pads taken out will it ruin the way the jacket sits?

It depends on how big they are and their position. I've removed shoulder pads before and sometimes it's worked and sometimes not. You may end up with excess material that just 'flops' if the pads are placed towards the sleeve. If they are more front to back pads across the shoulders and not running into the arm then it might be okay.

ps- you can probably do it yourself by unpicking the lining and then cutting the threads holding the pads in place- not difficult.

A good alteration place should be able to remove the shoulder pads and adjust the remaining fabric at the shoulders to make the jacket sit properly. Not sure on prices but worth getting done if you love the jacket.
