What to wear to the ballet?

Going to the ballet tommorow night, won't have much time to get ready after work, no idea what is appropriate to wear as have never been. Any suggestions?

Anything. Just go from work as you are if you want. Nobody dresses up anymore, even for Covent Garden. But you can look a bit more eveningy if you like, but no more than if you were off to dinner somewhere quite nice after.

Thanks, was worried i'd turn up in jeans and everyone else would be in evening wear, black trousers and dressy top it is then.

You'll probably feel that the evening is more special if you feel nice, but don't go mad. Dressy top and black trousers is absolutely enough. Have an expensive glass of champagne in the interval (pre-order) for me!

I hope you enjoy it. I love ballet. And some people dress up, lots of people don't. What are you seeing?

I went to sunday afternoon at Colliceum last month. Lots of people had jeans on with nice tops or smarter.

I agree with Aloha - I went for the first time a year or so ago - it was a last minute thing so I just went in work clothes. it has to be said, though, that part of the fun was people watching in the interval - quite a few ageing loaded hippy designer types. sort of Edina meets Vivienne Westwood meets Zandra Rhodes

Going to see Swan Lake, never been before, usually a concert goer, so looking forward to it!

I saw it on Saturday, it was fabulous! Make sure you read the synopsis before each act so that you can appreciate the mime more - there's quite a lot of story going on, but easy to miss it if you don't do your homework!
