Dublin boots?

Oreocrumbs · 17/09/2016 21:10

I'm not so sure this exactly comes under 'stylish' when talking about boots, but I do generally value the opinions on here so I thought I'd ask....

I've absolutely worn out my Dubarry Wexford boots and am going to replace them. I know they cost a lot, but I have worn them to death and so I'm happy to pay that price for another 4yrs hard labour! But a friend has asked if I've considered Dublin river boots instead. And I haven't heard of them.

So does anyone here have any experience of them? They are much cheaper (although still expensive so I don't want to waste money trying them)

TIA

Are they the grassmere h20? And do you have to lace them up with each wear or can you set the width then just pull them on and off?

As well as scruffy I'm clearly lazy too Blush

I left my boots at my mam's today or I would take a pic to show you how I destroyed them!

Mine are just the normal ones, I don't think the h2o were out when I bought these!
They need undoing with each wear but it's two separate laces and it's a case of pull the toggle on each, you don't have to actually thread anything Grin
I like ariat because they do half sizes and they're like slippers from day one. Also they have great grip on ice/snow

Oreocrumbs · 17/09/2016 23:07

I suppose I could manage a toggle! Grin

Well I must go to sleep before I spend the rent but thank you all for the input, I do think I'm leaning towards the ariats, but I'm going to have a trip down to Thinford there is a saddlery there that stocks dubary, ariat and toggi so hopefully I will come up trumps.

There is a Dublin stockist in a saddlery up the road as luck would have it so I will have a look at those too.

Definitely have a look but I would google "Dublin boots ripped lining"... It was a v v wel known problem
Rydale boots might be worth a look at too, I have a pair of them somewhere and they're decent for the price

WatcherOfTheNight · 17/09/2016 23:15

Have you looked at Tuffa Oreo?
I've had mine 4 years now & they are still going strong.

Oreocrumbs · 18/09/2016 08:14

I didn't think I had watcher but I've had a look and I think I might have had tuffa riding boots in the dim and distant past, things started looking very familiar.

I'll have a look at those as well thank you.

Don't use saddle soap on them! Especially not if you have the H2O boots. Use nikwax products designed for gore tex lined footwear or you risk ruining the waterproof breathable lining. They do a variety of products depending upon how you like to clean your boots (creams, waxes, sprays etc).

Saddle soap is horrible stuff and most saddlers advise against using it on Saddlery now.

I am a freelance groom and live in my boots for 10 hours a day. I do everything in them including riding, bathing horses, walking dogs etc. I have been through pretty much everything on the market. The best I have found were ariat grasmeres. I wouldn't touch the dublin ones, just not hard wearing enough. Actually I have heard awful things about Dubarry boots recently.

Oreocrumbs · 18/09/2016 10:03

I think the grasmere are the front runners at the minute.

Last question I think h20 or normal ones? Is there a difference? I'll ask in the shop but you guys have been very helpful!

Thank you Flowers

I have Windermeres and Grasmeres. Both H20. I wear the Windermeres every day of the year for hours every day. I do look after them (saddle soap and wax), but buy a new pair each Autumn purely because of the hours worn. I've never got on with my Grasmeres. They look lovely but I find the laces a faff.

horseygeorgie1 · 18/09/2016 12:32

I've never tried the Windermeres when, can you ride in them?

This company have their own brand and I'm very tempted!

Whenwillitrain · 18/09/2016 16:25

Yes, I hack in Windermeres every day.

Feawen · 18/09/2016 16:42

My Dublin Pinnacles disintegrated from the inside out within months, unfortunately, and stretched and sagged at the ankles too.

My Ariat riding boots are 4 years old, still do the job, and are the most comfortable thing I've ever put on my feet. I am not at all kind to them either. Last winter I bought a second pair for wearing around town with skinny jeans and a jacket - though now the riding boot trend has faded out they might get worn at the stables this year.

Oreocrumbs · 19/09/2016 09:24

Many thanks for all of the advice! I'm defiantly going for the ariats. And I'm torn between the grassmere and the Windermere or both and trying to keep the windermeres a bit smart Confused

Oh and hillinhurst84 I've attached a photo of my current boots, mine are worse than yours Grin

I have toggi Quebec. They're great. Bit difficult to get on at first but I wear them loads.

Whenwillitrain · 19/09/2016 10:30

Windermeres in dark and light brown. Still waterproof after a couple of years. The back ones are Ariat glaciers, which should be comfortable but are a bit too tall for me and cut into my knees.
