Anyone does this?

Different colours don't count :-)

I tend to do this but recently decided to stop. I lived a particular grey top so when the brand brought out the same one in the same colour, I went out of my way to get it. The same with a pair of Jamie jeans (although they are slightly different lengths - one 32 inch leg and the other 30 inch leg).

Yesterday I wore one of the tops and the jeans and looked in s shop mirror and realised that both make me look fat. The top looks like a maternity top and my legs look dumpy in the skinny jeans and I really want straight leg jeans.

mysteryfairy · 18/09/2016 08:14

I have identical Jamie jeans too in 34 and 36 inside leg, but that's more because I regretted the first pair being not quite long enough. Between me and DD we have 6 or 7 different styles of Jamie with different colour/distressing.

I tend to wear long layering tops every day as a base for my outfit. I have a selection from hush, Baukjen and h and m with many duplicates including 6 grey long sleeve hush ones. I bought two from h and m last night but will actually be chucking 2 tatty hush black ones. The grey ones just seem to go on forever so I actually can't tell which ones are ancient and which I bought to supposedly replace the ancient ones.

I wore some grey ugg (not recognisably ugg though) ankle boots to death last winter as they out comforted everything else. At the end of the season I bought them in black too on sale. Haven't worn the black at all and now contemplating them I'm less excited than last year. However their obscene comfort level may suck me in.

Buttwing · 18/09/2016 08:26

Yes like Remus h and m black tshirt because although I love them they don't last that well and I where them a lot. I've just found a new v neck style I like though so have bought a couple of them.

Liiinoo · 18/09/2016 08:52

All the time. I am 5ft tall and busty with a very narrow frame and skinny legs but a thick waist so I am a hard shape to dress. When I find something that fits and flatters I stock up.

ATM I have a loose knit, very lightly sequinned cotton jumper that I have in 5 colours (and two of the coral shade). I have Uniqlo cropped skinny jeans in 4 colours. These have been my summer wardrobe worn with fit flops or Skechers. With a camisole underneath and Uggs they will now become my autumn and early winter wardrobe.

I also currently have a Phase 8 calf length skater style dress with a v neck and 3/4 length sleeves in navy, in red and in green. It is a heavy jersey fabric and hangs beautifully. I have worn the navy one to funerals and intend to wear the red and the green over winter to parties and outings with patterned black tights and flat boots. It is a timeless style so I am hoping (as my grandad used to say) 'it'll see me out'!

Liiinoo · 18/09/2016 08:57

When I was younger I had a boyfriend who only ever bought the same Levi denim shirt which he wore over the same navy Wrangler cords. He had maybe 6-7 of each. Apart from a suit for weddings/interviews and white shirt/dark trousers for work that was all he owned. He reasoned that he knew it suited him so why buy anything else.

Looking back at the photos he was right. Far and away the best looking man I have ever been out with (Mr Liinoo excepting, OF COURSE)

befrazzled · 18/09/2016 08:59

Best fit jeans ever in Tesco of all places so bought 3 pairs, at M&S outlet tried black v neck 3/4 sleeve top for work, lovely fit so got 3, and got a couple of pairs of slim fit trousers. Makes sense to bulk buy if it's the right fit (and not expensive)

Hopefully · 18/09/2016 09:04

I do, but not often in the same colour. I'll quite often buy the same top in perhaps two dark neutrals (grey and olive, say) and one bright though, which allows me the same outfit look/silhouette in a few colour combos. I think the only things I have in exact duplicate are an H&M linen tshirt and a Zara dress - I love them both but could see the quality wasn't amazing and i was prepared to pay double to have them twice as long.

storynanny · 18/09/2016 09:14

Oh yes I do definitely. Especially shoes as I have hateful bunions. A pair of shoes that fit are a rare find so usually after a few wears to check the comfort I go back and buy another pair.
Also BHS jeggings which were a perfect fit for me, I bought several pairs before the store closed down.
Occasionally though I have bought an extra item and never got round to using it before it went out of fashion.
Equally though, I have often wished I had bought a spare.
Just bought another jersey dress from M and S outlet as my last years identical one I wore and wore, it won't date and was so useful. Obviously not many other people liked it as there were racks and racks of the dress in the outlet store!
Usually you can find a spare or replacement on eBay if you really like something from last season.

Shopgirl1 · 18/09/2016 09:59

I do this with work things as it's hard to find the right fit so when I do I buy a few - trousers especially and blouses (but different colours usually). I also do it with jeans - I have at least 5 pairs of topshop Leigh jeans on the go.
I'll also do it with bras and underwear when I find the right fit.

Floisme · 18/09/2016 11:03

I do it if something's cheap and I suspect the quality isn't great but I really like it and want it to last. Particularly shoes as I trash them.

hollieberrie · 18/09/2016 11:18

Yes yes, I do this a lot. Agree with eBay being your friend here - great for finding duplicates and also for selling if and when you get bored of something.

I have many variants of: Hollister boyfriend cardies, Boden lightweight tees, Gap skinny ankle trousers, Topshop Leigh jeans.

I did it with Fatface cardigans a
couple of years ago but recently got bored of the style and sold them all on ebay.

witsender · 18/09/2016 11:21

Yup. Tesco or next skinnies, multiple dark denim pairs. Also a few lighter/shorter ones for summer. MATLAn long vests for layering.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/09/2016 11:35

i've got the same style of high waisted skinnie jeans in every colour and wash they made in them. I know they fit, i know they suit so i figured i'd just get them instead of wasting time and money trying ones that don't work for me, they aren't expensive ones either, just from Primark but they are the perfect fit for me so i don't want to be without them

CoolToned · 23/09/2016 20:59

So I have two pairs of the Stan Smith. Same exact colour - white with green at the back. Do I eBay one of them (the unworn)? I actually find them comfortable.

dollybird · 23/09/2016 21:12

Between me and my DD (13) we have three of the exact same skinny jeans. I also had two long black cardigans that I lived in until they faded too much. Mostly I would buy the same thing in another colour though

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 24/09/2016 10:39

Ohhhhh yes.

5 pairs of Birkenstock Gizehs, in varying degrees of stench and decay.

5 pairs of Lands End leggings. They are very thick cotton, indestructible, and can be dyed back to their original grey/black/navy.

2 each of 3 different work dresses

I could go on for ever. I'm SO dull. Oh, and all identical models of bras and knickers in black, white, nude and a couple of bright floral bras.

igotnotimeforthis · 24/09/2016 13:10

Loads of things

2 pairs Duo boots black & brown
Blue velvet ballet flats , probably about 4-5 pairs different colours

Various multiples of same shoes in different colours actually

Some dresses, tops, shirts

Jackets, raincoats

Underwear always the same

Seems like almost everything I have is in multiples Smile
I think i need to clean out my wardrobe
