Help me get my flat stomach back!

I always had a flat stomach with minimal effort (but carry weight on bum and thighs) but in the last fee years my waist seems to have disappeared and my stomach is far from flat. If I don't hold it in then I look a bit pregnant. What is the best way to target this area do you think?

I bought a slendertone belt, was virtually immobilized with several slipped discs...it strengthened by back and my stomach no end, in fact my tummy's never been so flat. But I did do an hour a day.

I'd like to know this too!

RedforDanger · 17/09/2016 07:54

This is really simple but effective and should be done standing up

Take a deep breath, breathe out slowly whilst pulling your tummy muscles in/up, hold for as long as possible, repeat. Works for pelvic floor too. Quick, easy and can be done anywhere, anytime. I do it at work/bus stop, anywhere I'm standing for a while.

Hey fuzzypeggy I was into my fitness before during and after having my lil boy (he's nearly 3 now) it's sprang back pretty well but I still have the excess skin a little barely noticeable to others ..just to me! But I find that it isn't just stomach crunches planks etc that tone and slim down the stomach you've got to do some cardio with it too to burn the fat quicker while adding definition from the sit up type stuff . Also I found back exercises helped too maybe because you're sucking it in from all angles lol! Good luck xx

My 70 year old mil got a bit fed up with hers a few weeks ago (she's 6' tall and gorgeous!) so she hoopla hooped 3 times a week with one if those weighted hoops and is back to her flat tummied self!

Her 43 year old dil (ie me) also has a tummy issue and a weighted hoola hoop.... The difference is that mine sits in the garage gathering cobwebs.... Sigh

I'm going to start on Monday....

The flattest stomach I ever had was when I was lifting barbell weights. It's easier than it looks. I was spending about 30 min every other day including warmup and it did what all the hundreds of crunches never did. Had amazing toned arms/ shoulders and it made my back fat vanish too. As soon as my c sec heals enough to I will be back to it! Otherwise your best bet might be to lose a little weight unless you're already at ideal weight?

Pisssssedofff · 17/09/2016 09:33

It's 80% diet. 3/4 litres of water a day apparently, I haven't actually achieved this once yet

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 17/09/2016 09:48

Scentofwater and Pissssedoff I came on to say the same.

I never had a flat tummy, even before DD, but weightlifting and watching what I eat mean I now have visible abs.

By watching what I eat I don't mean going on a diet either, just making sure I get the right ratio of protein /carbs /fats and that I don't overeat but stop when satisfied

Ifailed · 17/09/2016 09:51

you could have the best abs in the world, but if you are over-weight they'll be hidden by fat.So you need to exercise and lose lbs.

mumofthemonsters808 · 17/09/2016 10:04

Belly Fat Buster dvd, a fiver off Amazon, different ten minute sections (cardi, pilates, etc), It will take time and needs to be done regularly, the first task will be to blast off the fat and then concentrate upon defining the tummy muscle and developing your core stength. In twelve months time, you will be proud as punch with your tummy.I feel like I work for the company because I promote it so much, but it has been the making of me.The first time I put in on, I could do hardly anything, but I persevered and the results have been amazing.Youll never look back.

Fuzzypeggy · 17/09/2016 10:21

Thanks all. I really watch what I eat and definitely don't overeat but just by diet alone I don't seem to be able to shift the tummy fat

Have a look at Emily Skye she has some great videos on YouTube

Scentofwater · 17/09/2016 20:19

keepon yes, I do/did cardio as well, but that was for stamina not appearance. I used to do a lot of cardio but it wasn't until I added weights that I saw much of an improvement. I did my own version of strong lifts 5x5. I tried the you are your own gym but frankly it was too faffy as I'd always lose track of what I was supposed to do next. I used body weight exercises to warm up for the weights though.

I'm totally out of shape/practice now however!
