How do I fix this?! Comment from a friend last week...I'm 35, have 2 DSs under 5, probably drink a bit too much fizz but have lost 3 stone on SW...currently at home with the kids so tend have a boring practical wardrobe of leggings/tunics/chinos/tops & no money to get hair/nails done. I do cleanse/tone/moisturise with Nuxe stuff...what else can I do?!

Use light fake tan and colours that suit you. Brightens the eyes, makes you look alert.

Alternatively, fuck off works too.

LittleOyster · 14/09/2016 15:44

Similar stuff to what others have mentioned has helped me:

More sleep
Less booze
Feroglobin iron supplement
Brow threading
Nars blush in deepthroat (sorry, horrible name)
Facial oils - coconut hot cloth cleanse, then rosehip, sometimes castor on eyes and other wrinkly bits

I have also been trying the 'triangle of light' technique which Wayne Goss describes in one of his YouTube videos (basically highlight the whole mid-section of the face from below eyes to cupids bow, in an inverted triangle). Mixed success so far - looks good to begin with and then the makeup settles into my fine lines and pores. Sad

Ps. Is your friend just bitchy and jealous of your amazing weightloss?

oldlaundbooth · 14/09/2016 16:17

P.S Congrats on the weight loss. Feels good, eh?

Ilovetorrentialrain · 14/09/2016 18:55

Seconding hte use of fake tan / Dove type moisturiser.

By the way I wouldn't assume the friend is a bad one. Sometimes best mates can be honest with each other like this.

HORRIFIED to see people recommending Botox even if it is only jokingly. That stuff is toxic. They don't even know what it does to you long-term yet and even if I weren't afraid of needles it's the last thing on the planet I would want to put anywhere near my face.

I'd say if you really want to do something (apart from the food-based advice about good oils, which is sensible), then invest in a decent base (primer, foundation, concealer, powder). If you spend money on the base then the rest doesn't matter as much and you can go cheap.

Me too.
So you look tired. Colours can help. What about getting a bit of 'me time'.
A nice facial. You can DIY it. Everyone looks tired from time to time. A nice haircut can also give you a revamped look.

Probaby just envious of your weight loss, OP :)

tigerdriverII · 14/09/2016 22:43

Second (or third) colours. Step away from anything that drains you and Google some of the colours sites.

PitchFork · 14/09/2016 22:45

mascara
without I look like a zombie I'm about to faint.

nursepearl · 14/09/2016 23:34

I find people never mean well when they say this! I mean if you do look tired its not great to point it out, why do people do this? I find a bright lippy helps me look less tired and maybe a bright top or scarf near your face.

Ledkr · 15/09/2016 10:43

It's the booze. I always notice it next day. I love a drink too but the next day bag face look keeps me from drinking very often

DrDreReturns · 15/09/2016 10:55

I used to worry about looking tired. Now I don't give a shit.

milkyface · 15/09/2016 10:59

I always look tired because of the colouring under my eyes. I believe orange concealer helps. Though you do have to stick foundation over the top otherwise it just looks bloody odd.

AmberGreyson · 15/09/2016 12:24

sleep is the best make up, just sleep more, eat more fruits

CarrieDS · 15/09/2016 15:08

Unfortunately when you have kids we do get, and perhaps look, rather tired much of the time! Does it especially matter? I don't think so. I don't think you need a fake tan or anything more drastic than that. I don't think it's especially great of your friend to point out you look tired, although I suspect she was trying to be nice in a sympathetic/ making conversation kind of way. But if you feel good, you are more likely to look good.
I would recommend exercise. It's hard with kids, but there is time if you want it. Can you take 10 mins off while someone watches your kids to go for a run, and take it from there? That is free afterall. Then run to 15/20/25 mins the next time etc. Although I wouldn't recommend running only, if possible try mix-up with some other things (pilates/ swimming); honestly you will feel so much better by doing that twice a week, and you will start to glow and truely want to wear clothes other than leggings...
Maybe when you do buy clothes, try get some clothing that is a little different... leopard print baggy trousers, or bright pink trainers... clothes that say "here I am and I am proud of myself/ not conforming".
But seriously, there is going to be time to not look tired when your kids are older. I wouldn't make it a huge concern if you do look and feel a bit tired! x

Want2bSupermum · 15/09/2016 15:11

I always look tired without make up because I am always tired. I swear by loose mineral powder by neutrogena. It hides multiple sins. That and a very thin layer of white eyeshadow in the corners of my eyes and under my brow arches.

Also cut coffee out. Tea doesn't affect my face like coffee does. I swear I took a couple of years off when I switched back to tea only.

icouldabeenacontender · 15/09/2016 15:20

Ah yes you look tired, let's recommend a paralysing neuro toxin shall we Hmm
You probably need to cut down on your fizz, as alcohol is so dehydrating, but if that's a bit drastic. Up the moisturiser and make-up.
Well done on your weight loss btw.

Want2bSupermum · 15/09/2016 16:23

Icould

Hahahaha - I see men and women here going for botox and being holier than thou with their food. I am like dude what part don't you get? Why bother with organic this and that when you are injecting a toxin at the same time!

StrawberrytallCake · 15/09/2016 16:32

That's weird! I do Botox and eat healthily - they have absolutely nothing to do with each other Hmm

Each to their own but a teensy bit of Botox in one area is the only thing over 8 years of motherhood that has so far helped. However I also agree you don't have to do anything at all, just sharing what I do!

EnidButton · 15/09/2016 20:12

Water, sleep (!), fresh air. The boring stuff.

Also concealer and blusher do the most to brighten a tired face ime. Blend a bit of lighter than your natural skin tone concealer at the outer corners of your eyes. It creates a subtle illusion of your eyes being more 'awake' or open.

Hyaluronic acid can add a bit of plumpness back to the skin. You can buy it on its own or find a moisturiser that has it in.

But yes she's rude. One might think "Oh she looks tired today" or whatever but we don't say it because what good does it do? The person knows they're tired, no need to make them feel like they must look crap too.

EnidButton · 15/09/2016 20:15

Another thing, and this is very boring I'm afraid, cut down on the amount of sugar you eat. Sugar does bad things to skin. Something to do with collagen I think but my brain isn't working properly atm. Anyway, less sugar (and alcohol) will help.

Willsee · 15/09/2016 20:33

I hate it when people say this to me...
And to my horror, it came out my mouth last week. She had an eye infection and her eyes looked really sore, that's what I meant to ask about. And instead i said " you look tired". SadBlush I am an idiot. I hereby promise to think before I speak in the future.
But perhaps your friend didn't mean to be horrible.
Less sugar and wheat, more water, sleep and movement have helped me. My eyes are often red and sore, and that does make me look tired, or about to burst into tears. Do yours look red?

specialsubject · 15/09/2016 21:39

Thump 'friend'

Or say ' yes, i have two small children. Will you take them for a week or two? No? Well, stop being such a pointless bitch then'
