Awkward sized bras - where to buy - without bankrupting myself?

Missanneshirley · 04/09/2016 20:30

Following bra intervention instructions I am now apparently a 28E which is all well and good except that nowhere seems to sell them!!
I've ended up on the fig leaves site and there's nothing under £25-30, which just isn't feasible.
Does anyone have any recommendations for Primark or even M&s prices but outwith "Standard" sizes?
Thanks!

So many people telling me I can't be that tiny at that size have got me stressing I've done it wrong!
I was measured 9 years ago (Blush I know, I know) at 34b. Which is what I was when I was measured before that. Basically I feel like I've been that size my whole adult life. Bras seem OK on, but are getting old and ratty so I was going to buy new ones. Thought I should double check size as I've since bf 2 kids and taken up some moderate exercise!
So I measured: 28 inches under my boobs, well actually more like 27.5 if tape pulled tight as per instructions.
Then I leant forward and measured round fullest part of boobs which gave me 33-34 inches. Does that not make 28E my starting point for trying on?
I'm miles away from any big shops like bravissimo so I'd appreciate a double check before I make another jaunt to the big city!

Panache tango 2 on eBay in last years bright colours !

hollinhurst84 · 04/09/2016 23:16

I would try a 28DD and 28E

Missanneshirley · 04/09/2016 23:21

Thank you! Just starting to doubt myself. My boobs are really pretty small!

Don't doubt yourself, my G cups are fairly small (I've had people tell me I'm too small to shop at Bravissimo!), it's just the whole 28 back ratio to cup size thing that does it.

Jemimapuddleduk · 05/09/2016 18:06

Belle lingerie and e bay (there are outlets that sell new on there- panache, Freya etc)

Missanneshirley · 05/09/2016 23:02

Thank you so much for all the recommendations!!

Apparently, a 30D would have the same mass as a 32C, a 34B, 36A etc... Just in different proportions. So you have to look at the whole bra size not just the letter before you can say if it's big or small.

As to where to buy, sorry but I think it is going to be a specialist sort of place e.g figleaves, but check if the shop you like has a clearance or eBay store.

MsMarple · 05/09/2016 23:20

Brastop often has some bargains - I've had some nice ones for £15 before - and they definitely sell 28E

Snapandcrackle · 06/09/2016 02:04

I am 30e and have got some from Amazon for £15 before. Get yourself measured at bravissimo so you know what style you like first then search on Amazon. I did buy two from bravissimo but now I just keep an eye on the Amazon prices.

mysteryfairy · 06/09/2016 06:55

OP I measure 27 inches under bust. I am very bony and don't have a lot of padding round my torso. Im also 5ft 10 though to give you an idea of my proportions, assume someone who was 5ft and measured the same might be less bony. I find a 28 very uncomfortable and often prefer to wear a 30. I've read on various blogs etc that this is quite common for narrow women. I mention as 30D would be a much easier size to find.

Having said that I buy all my bras from eBay or bra stop, only buying Freya and fauve. My last eBay purchase was two fauve and one Freya bra total cost £34. They are quite colourful bras and presumably last year's fabrics, but absolutely fine.

GinAndOnIt · 06/09/2016 07:39

I'm apparently a 28E too, but can't process that so I currently wear no bra because I'm totally torn on what to do! I don't know why I don't trust the sizing. I have a 30C bra which feels a bit tight on the band but is the most comfortable out of my bras (others are 32B). Would it feel tight because cup is too small?

NameChange30 · 06/09/2016 07:54

Gin It probably feels tight around the band because you're used to wearing a band size that's too big. What's wrong with being 28E (or 30D)? Seems weird to keep wearing the wrong size just because you don't like the idea of the right size. I suggest you go to Bravissimo and get properly fitted.

GinAndOnIt · 06/09/2016 08:02

It just seems so wrong! Am very rural so no good shops nearby, and every time I pop a 28E onto my online basket, I think it sounds ridiculous and close the page. I think it's just because I'm so used to the old sizes - feel a bit of a fraud for buying an E when I'm not very big. Ridiculous, I know.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/09/2016 09:47

A 28E isn't that big at all, as others have said. Have a look at the bra band project website for pics of women in well fitting bras, it's really helpful for breaking down the perceptions of bra sizes.

For discounts try my curves and me which is a sale site for panache and cleo, leia lingerie which does Freya, brastop, and funnily enough amazon.

KatharinaRosalie · 06/09/2016 10:15

Yes if the cups are too small, the 30 would feel tight even if it is really not. Put the bra on backwards, cups on the back. Is it still too tight?

Cellardoor23 · 06/09/2016 13:10

I'm a 36F. Well that's what bravisimo told me. I'm still a bit confused though.

After reading up about band size it says you should only be able to fit two fingers at the back. I can still fit my whole hand through? Does this mean the band is still too big? My 36DD bra was too uncomfortable and left a horrible mark around my back. Should I be looking at 34G? Or 34F? The cup of the 36F fits fine.

leedy · 06/09/2016 13:15

If the cup of the 36F feels fine but the band is too loose then try a 34G, it'll have the same cup size on a smaller band. It may also be the particular brand/style, I'm normally a 32 back but in some brands I'm a 34 because the bands are kind of rigid, and have occasionally had to go to a 30 for ones that are particularly stretchy.

I get a lot of discounted new bras on EBay or Brastop.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/09/2016 13:16

Do the fingers under the band test at the front - the shape of my back means I can always gets lots of fingers in the band at the back but if you try it under the front you should have very little space.

Branleuse · 06/09/2016 13:16

try ebay. Theres loads of 28Es on there for under a tenner.

brands like panache and freya are usually pretty consistently sized and ok for buying online too

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/09/2016 13:17

Don't forget the FF, 36F is same cup as 34ff

LemonBreeland · 06/09/2016 13:18

Brastop is a good option, and they have free returns

leedy · 06/09/2016 13:21

Heh, I forgot that there's an FF between F and G. You can tell I'm normally a DD cup....

bloomburger · 06/09/2016 13:23

Fantasie bras are brilliant.

They have lots of new ones on eBay in your size.

£40 in JL but I pick them up for under 20 on eBay.
