Tights - black opaque or nude?

Which do you wear with dresses/skirts if you're trying to pull of 'classic but fashion aware'?

Or you frequent the how to look expensive thread?

Depends on outfit?

LockedOutOfMN · 04/09/2016 14:54

I hate nude tights and feel like the Duchess of Cambridge if ever I'm wearing them so I'd be in opaques, bare legs or trousers.

Mitfordhons · 04/09/2016 14:57

I know what you mean LockedOut I tired a nude pair of pop socks under ankle length trousers this week and felt like someone's grandma and the trousers stuck to them.

Swallow your natural £5 a pair instincts and invest £25 in a pair of 66 Wolford Deluxe opaques. They are life--proof. I have 15 year old Wolfords and they are now starting to look a bit knackered.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 04/09/2016 17:15

I'm so with you Locked.

Nettletheelf · 04/09/2016 17:17

Opaque. And I agree with the wolford recommendation. I fell over on a patch of ice and skidded four feet down a hill. Ankles grazed and scabby, Wolford velvet opaques unscathed. Really. That was three years and they still look new.

Pootlebug · 04/09/2016 17:19

These magic Wolford tights - can you bung them in the washing machine?

Nettletheelf · 04/09/2016 17:22

You can! Indestructible.

JackandDiane · 04/09/2016 17:24

i had them once - were ok. I like the soft autograph ones from marks
use one pair all year

RunningLulu · 04/09/2016 17:25

Winter/raining- opaques
Summer - nudes

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 04/09/2016 17:26

Those Wolfords - can someone link to them? The website has loads but I'm too overwhelmed by the £145 a pair ones!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/09/2016 17:51

These are the Wolford ones here or they do slightly less opaque 66 denier here

I have had those and they're good - but I honestly think these M and S ones here are every bit as good...

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/09/2016 17:51

Meant to add, especially if you want black - the real advantage of the expensive Wolfords id the range of colours...

DameDoom · 04/09/2016 22:49

www.wolfordshop.co.uk/product/boutique/velvet-de-luxe-66/18207. The M and S ones are fine and reasonably priced but the Wolfords will keep their shape indefinitely withstanding sharp pet claws and Armageddon. I accidently put mine in a boil wash and then tumble dried them. They still look pristine. Treat yourself and marvel at their sheer endurance as you will have them for years.

RunningLulu · 05/09/2016 13:29

My M&S 100 per cent derniers have lasted me nearly 3 years (got them when I started commuting to London). I wash them daily in the washing machine, have even ridden (and fallen off!) bikes in them. I don't think Wolfords could do any better.

WhooooAmI24601 · 05/09/2016 14:08

I work in a Reception class and only ever buy Wolford opaques. I treat myself to a new pair every winter, but previous year's ones look perfect and I wear them to death and am on my knees constantly. We also have four cats, a dog, two rabbits and two DC and they've withstood everything that menagerie can throw at them.

GobblersKnob · 05/09/2016 15:04

Have always been tempted by Wolfords, I buy cheaper very opaques but they just look knackered so quickly, I find the worst thing is where my bag has rubs against my thigh, just a mass of bobbles. Could the magical Wolfords survive this? As £31 is a lot to throw on a pair of tights....

Also sizing with a 32" waist and a 40" hip it suggests a M, but am 5'10" and so usually pick a L or XL for leg stretch?

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 05/09/2016 15:33

I have looked at Wolfords before but they are pretty expensive.. I do love the M&S ones - 60 or 100Dn last me all winter, for 10 quid they wash really well and are nice to wear without loosing their elasticity, I find.

LockedOutOfMN · 06/09/2016 18:28

Thanks, Felicia and Mitford.

Agree with Wolford recommendation, they're always reduced in sales in places like Selfridges (and probably online) so you never need to pay full price.

Mine don't last as long as you guys', though, and they do bobble a bit e.g. underneath boots, but still better than M&S. The M&S always seem a bit sheer, even when they're opaque (iyswim).
