I am going to a wedding and am crap at wedding outfits, and usually end up looking really frumpy (also have been pregnant at the last few), so would like to try this out. Any experiences good or bad?

I don't do floaty dresses...the type of usual wedding outfit, that's why I like topshop

debenhams do a free personal shopper service and this would cover lots of shops depending on what yours has, here is would be Coast/Prinicples/TopShop/Wallis/Oasis/Warehouse and the designers at debenhams too.

3littlefrogs · 02/02/2007 18:16

I went with a friend to Debenhams , Oxford street for the personal shopper service - it is free and it was great - I bought several things and would definitely go back.

mabel1973 · 04/02/2007 19:15

hadn't thought of debenhams. That would give me a bit more scope.

It is a shame personal shopping is for the well moneyed. I am trying to change that and bring it too the masses. It is suprising how much money we waste on clothes that we never wear but who can afford to pay a personal shopper £300. I work as a personal stylist and I charge £90.00 for three hours. I think that is reasonable and I really feel that it can be a valuable service. Once you learn lessons about yourself and pick up some really good tips you start to shop smarter anyway.

mabel1973 · 05/02/2007 09:47

wow - i think £90 is a bargain actually!
Although the reason i don't wear most of my clothes any more is because they ride up over my baby belly

OP posts:
fashionsista · 05/02/2007 09:50

Oh a baby belly can easily be disguised. I manage to hide mine most days (apart from when I am slouching, and my DS has taken to patting it regularly and asking what it is!)

mabel1973 · 05/02/2007 09:57

am making the most of the current smock tops and tunics to hide mine, but hoping yoga is going to sort it out by the summer!

what type of wedding are you going to, is it a posh one or more relaxed.

sar123 · 05/02/2007 10:16

i was given a topshop personal shopping experience as a gift and it was fantastic . if you are a topshop kind of person i would definitely give it a go.

mabel1973 · 05/02/2007 10:33

fashionsista - it is VERY posh!!! something I'm not used to, so no idea where to start...i don't have the money to though to spend alot on an outfit.
sar123 - yes I am a topshop kind of person, i don't do the usual wedding thing of floaty dress or jacket / skirt/ trousers thing IYSWIM!

fashionsista · 05/02/2007 10:47

Well if it is posh - it is best you go posh. I don't think you have to to floaty dresses anymore to weddings. Perhaps a structured dress would look good. Karen Millen and Coast do nice dresses that are extremely well cut. What size are you?

mabel1973 · 05/02/2007 11:22

I am 5'10" and a size 12.
I like the idea of the personal shopping service because I am not very good at putting together weddingy outfits, I don't really do getting dressed up any more....which I why i thought of topshop. Do like Karen Millen though...

my other option is BIL works for Paul Smith so could get 60% off....prob still couldn't afford it though.

U sound like me. The trouble is though if we go to an event like a wedding and everyone else is really dressed up, we feel like we should have made the effort. You are nice and tall and in good shape so I think you should look for a dress. I would recommend a good fitted shape - possibly lined and some added detailing. You could go for a cheaper dress and nice accessories, hat and shoes. You could also look at hat hire, which is a cheaper option.

fashionsista · 05/02/2007 11:38

also P Smith is not very dressy I find and is very very expensive for what it is
