Jasmine's Bridal Replica Makers - big no no!

alexandranarino · 01/09/2016 08:27

Since the wedding dress I wanted was haute couture and impossible to lay my hands on I decided for a company that makes replicas of wedding dresses, Jasmine's Bridal. They are based in China and in hindsight i should have thought twice since I stopped ordering clothes online from Chinese websites due to poor quality, but Jasmine's had quite good reviews online. It seemed like women all over the world used them.
Now I got the dress and I just broke down and cried. First I even thought they sent me someone else's dress. Because it doesn't even remotely look like the original. Instead of a knitted dress they have sent me a cheap silk-imitation dress with the patterns sown on top. Added to that the upper part of the dress is totally transparent so there is no way one can wear a bra under it. I asked them what on earth were they thinking? They replied that it SEEMED the original dress looked like this.
1200 pounds wasted. I am an idiot.

witsender I think that's probably the point Wink

It's rather amusing when it's not you and your money/event

Vintagegirl1 · 01/09/2016 10:43

The original dress is minging! You have had a lucky escape.

user7755 · 01/09/2016 10:45

Vintage - I'm so pleased someone has said that. It's awful, it looks like the sort of fabric my nan's best tablecloth was made from, and there's no way you could wear it without a bra.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 01/09/2016 10:53

God those are hideous, older. Grin

I think you'd have to be an outstandingly talented dress maker with a skilled team to even achieve anything like Kate Twigley's dress. I imagine it would take months to make and cost an eye watering amount. It would also involve countless fittings to perfectly mould it to her body shape and as mentioned, complicated invisible underwear incorporated into the dress.

For a limited budget, I think it's best to go for a simple design that can be executed well by your average seamstress.

GeneralBobbit · 01/09/2016 10:55

You can see all of her boob practically in the real thing, it's cut so far down the sides. Can you post a picture of yours OP, dying to have a look.

Clickclickclick · 01/09/2016 10:57

OP have you actually tried on any wedding dresses? That kind of dress in no way lends itself to someone with big boobs. Speaking as someone with big boobs myself, and I've also recently got married. You need to try dresses on. The ones you like on Pinterest probably won't be the ones that suit you.

Also lesson learned about buying cheap copies . Never ever ever do that. If you're on a budget, you can buy second hand, or past season, or beg the bridal boutique staff to let you just take home the dress you tried on and loved at a discount because someone else may have tried it on like I did because I had a month until the big day and no time to waste

wowfudge · 01/09/2016 11:08

You are getting quite a bit of stick on this thread OP, but honestly the original dress is quite tarty - it's all partly exposed boobs and leaves nothing to the imagination as it is so clingy. A dressmaker could have made you something beautiful for the money you have spent. If you paid by credit card you may be able to get your money back.

Pisssssedofff · 01/09/2016 11:18

If you paid by credit card you will get a refund, please please say you did ?

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 01/09/2016 11:43

How did you look at the pictures of her dress and think a cheap copy wouldn't be revealing in any way?

I can't imagine how a G cup would be restrained by that design even in the original.

Runningupthathill82 · 01/09/2016 11:54

OP, I think it's a bit off to come on here complaining about the dress you've seen sent if you won't even share a photo of it.

It may be salvageable? There was a thread on here a few weeks ago with a poster who'd had some truly awful alterations to her wedding dress, and IIRC a very kind MNer sorted it for her.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 01/09/2016 12:05

According to the MNer who altered the dress it all went tits up after that thread. The bride who posted didn't like her alterations, blocked her from Facebook, never spoke to her again and bought a different dress Sad.

Runningupthathill82 · 01/09/2016 12:25

Whaaaat? That's sad news, Ilostit - I thought that one had a lovely happy ending.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/09/2016 12:33

I am inclined to agree that the style was never going to work and I really hope you manage to get something better.

I recently had a dress made, custom, for a vow renewal - silk corset and skirt, all boned and made to fit exactly plus a long tulle heavily appliquéd cape all hand made in the uk by someone who has won a couple of awards for wedding dresses and has a proper shop. It cost me 1500 in total and although it wasn't white that actually made it more expensive as it was harder to get the right fabrics and details in colour! That included about 8 appointments and fittings too so a lot of time from the designer.

1200 for a Chinese replica is crazy cash.

smudgedlipstick · 01/09/2016 12:37

Photo or it didn't happen!

NattyGolfJerkin · 01/09/2016 12:47

Not classy

Jasmine's Bridal Replica Makers - big no no!
ThirstyNell · 01/09/2016 12:51

Your boobs hanging out on your wedding day is not a look that you should aspire to- unless you're shooting to new series of My Big Fat Chinese Knock Off Wedding!

OlennasWimple · 01/09/2016 13:24

OP's gone a bit quiet?

user7755 · 01/09/2016 14:33

Help me out here, I've googled her and I still don't know who Kate Twigley is, all I got were photos of her and her sister (who I've never heard of either) being pregnant.

Pisssssedofff · 01/09/2016 14:39

I think Nattys photo is her, it's not a great dress tbh.

MargeryFenworthy · 01/09/2016 14:41

Lucky escape if you ask me.

ICanCountToOneHundred · 01/09/2016 14:43

According to the MNer who altered the dress it all went tits up after that thread. The bride who posted didn't like her alterations, blocked her from Facebook, never spoke to her again and bought a different dress sad.

Say that isn't true, I loved that thread, it was such a happy ending Sad

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 01/09/2016 14:55

Not surprised OP hasn't been back some of the replies on here are just mean. You may not like the dress, isn't it enough to say it's not to your taste, sorry you've had this experience?

FWIW for £1200 I think you were robbed regardless - my dress was customer made for less than £200 and fitted to me. OP if you come back, PM me if you're in the north west (or can get to the NW) and I'll give you her address.

Tiggeryoubastard · 01/09/2016 15:02

Why would you pay that for a copy of a dress that would look trashy on a drag queen and that wouldn't even suit your body shape from a country that's known for making poor copies for the biggest day of your life? Even a decent copy would be s bloody mess.

wowfudge · 01/09/2016 15:13

Felicia as one poster pointed out - having a copy made is theft of the designer's IP anyway. That'll be why you have to go to China for it. I cannot imagine investing such a vast amount of money in something that important via the internet. It's not as if the OP couldn't have had a bespoke dress made here for that kind of money.

I've never heard of Ms Twigley either. Judging by the copyright on the photos of her wedding, she is based in Australia.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 01/09/2016 15:18

R.e that other wedding dress thread. The poster who helped the bride was very good about her not liking the dress and wasn't bitter about it. It was just one of those things. I'm guessing the bride to be was too embarrassed to say she didn't like the alterations so it was easier to just block her and ignore everyone Grin
Still a lovely thread though and I think several posters donated to the poster's charity.
