Has anyone dyed leather?

I've got a pair of olive green knee high boots which are looking a bit shabby - has anyone dyed boots or shoes before and can recommend a brand?

I had a pair of boots dyed a couple of years ago. They were originally a very orange tan colour and I wanted them darker. I used Shoe dye direct and they were excellent. They can even dye your shoes or boots (and I think bags) to match any switch of colour. I got my boots dyed in the exact colour as my favourite leather bag.

I was tempted to do it myself but the boots were really expensive. They did do a brilliant job, lovely even colour and if I remember correctly, they were not that expensive.

I've tried to do it myself a few times but it's never ended well as the dye hasn't settled in the creases. I agree it's probably better to pay to get it done properly.

Yikes it'll be nearly £60 to get them dyed! It's probably a good investment as they're quality leather boots that I will probably wear a lot, but I'm not sure.

Renovating Polish may do the job if you can find the right green/olive. It's polish with extra pigment/dye in it. There are other brands than this, eBay has a good selection if you can't find it at a shoe-mender's shop.

I've only ever "Dyed" one pair of shoes, the DIY stuff you can get (again in shoe mending shops) is rather paint-like so won't give a great finish compared to a professional.

If the boots are good quality, then I'd think £60 was a good investment.
