Trainer wise

Before I commit social suicide by ordering reeboks or something

Usually wear skechers

Pump type trainers go better with jeans imo. If you google image search trainers with jeans you'll see running type trainers tend to be worn by people wearing super skinny ankle grazer jeans, if you can get away with that then fair enough.

Chottie · 28/08/2016 04:31

Another vote for sketchers - I have a pair in grey. They are so comfortable and can go in the washing machine too, so they always looks brand new. I've seen lots of people in them in SE London too.

PNGirl · 28/08/2016 08:50

Exercise brand trainers (i.e Nike and Adidas not Converse hi tops) should only be worn with either turned up or ankle grazer skinnies. Or boyfriend jeans.

You can't go wrong with black and white Nikes: I have these Tanjuns which came out as alternatives to Roshe. I'm always being asked where they are from.

I personally prefer the retro-looking New Balance in suede such as 996s. Their others do look like running shoes rather than fashion.

I live near Bath and lived in the centre for a year; the reason it's full of Skechers is because it's full of tourists who have bought sensible shoes from April to September. It's a nightmare to live these!

PNGirl · 28/08/2016 08:51

I kinda love my Vans slip ons but they're not supportive at all.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/08/2016 09:01

Ooh I like those nikes

Are superga still cool or am I late by about two years? About to order unless someone stylish says otherwise Smile

CointreauVersial · 28/08/2016 20:08

Superga still "in", I'd say. Like Converse, they aren't the most supportive/comfortable, so strictly as fashion wear.

goddessoftheharvest · 28/08/2016 20:26

God, are Skechers not cool any more? I only really weartrainers for running, but I remember about ten years ago, when I was a teen, Skechers were The Coolest Shoes Ever, and anybody who wore Nikes outside of excersising was seen as chavvy

Those Tanjuns are really nice.

I'm about as fashionable as a beef and tomato Pot Noodle, but I'm glad that ballet pumps are on their way out, they destroyed my feet and were all I could find in the shops for ages!

StopMakingMeLogOn · 29/08/2016 11:20

I have a completely black pair of Skechers (inc the sole) for exercising in. They have the memory foam insole and are so comfortable . Imo all trainers are ugly so you might as well get ones that support your feet and feel nice.

Maybe I'm just getting old but I cannot see how a plain black trainer from one brand is any better or worse to look at than a plain black trainer from a different brand.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/08/2016 11:22

No I think your probably right there stop

I just fancied a change though and having bought them for so many years I have no idea what's the done the done thing now.

I guess it's better to fail completely on purpose and look like you don't give a shit than try to get it right but not quite "nail it" Grin

Actually reebok classics are pretty hot right now!

BestIsWest · 29/08/2016 16:16

I've got some plain navy Skechers and they are incredibly comfortable. I can't see how the Nike or New Balance ones look any better sorry.

NicknameUsed · 29/08/2016 20:56

I think the thing with Sketchers is that they are so much more comfortable than anything I have ever put on my feet that nothing else feels as good when I want to do lots of walking. They spoil you for other footwear brands.

Other brands might look more "fashionable", but quite frankly I don't care how "fashionable" I look when tramping around theme parks in Orlando or the streets of London for several hours.

EmpressTomatoKetchup · 29/08/2016 21:07

Gold and pastel Reebok classics are popular atm. I remember the kids who used to take the piss out of me at school for wearing unbranded clothes used to wear white reebok classics so I hate them by association.

nancy75 · 29/08/2016 22:03

Skechers might be comfortable but the op wanted to know what was fashionable, they are rarely the same thing!Grin

Wear which ever trainers you like OP, just get some decent insoles for comfort. I've inspected DDs sketchers, they appear to, have a memory foam insoles. I suspect that's what makes them so comfy. I wear gel half insoles in all my shoes.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/08/2016 22:22

I'm still deciding. Tough choices and I'm struggling to find my size....

Hope I can get them in time for school Grin

I love my sketchers Go Run for running. The sole is designed to encourage you to strick the ground mid sole and they are lovely and light. I never wear them for anything other than running - they're not pretty.

PNGirl · 29/08/2016 23:12

It's not really about one plain black trainer vs another. Fashion trainers can be used for sport but streamlined black and white Nikes with minimal detailing look intentional, like part of an outfit. My mum's Skechers Go Walks which are also black look like she's popped them on as they were by the back door. Not that she cares as they were bought for comfort.

This lady is an example.

As soon as you get into bright colours or big chunky styles then I agree they may as well be any make.

NicknameUsed · 29/08/2016 23:20

I don't agree, but I am quite brand oblivious. I am not a teenager and don't care if someone thinks I am frumpy because I am not gullible enough to succumb to wearing the latest "in" trainers. I just want something that doesn't clash with my clothes and that is very comfortable, and so far nothing has come close to Sketchers for me.

nancy75 · 29/08/2016 23:43

Nickname, it's gone to wear whatever you want but this thread was started to ask which trainers are in fashion at the moment

nancy75 · 29/08/2016 23:43

Fine not gone, damn phone!!

PNGirl · 30/08/2016 00:07

You don't have to be gullible or a teenager to like the way an item looks over something else of the same type. You could say the same about a top from Whistles or Hush vs Primark or Tesco. They all do the same job but people prioritise particular features be that price, material, end use, what they go with. In this case the OP wanted something trendy.
