What age did you start really noticing signs of ageing? And, any tips to make it slightly less depressing?

I'm 41 & would say that when I had my 40th birthday it was like the ageing switch was turned on!

I have always looked young for my age and my dh says I still do but I
don't feel as confident about my looks anymore. My skin is drier & occasionally spotty and I can see jowels and a turkey neck appearing!
Also the one or two grey hairs i had appear to be breeding!

I am conscious I need to make more effort to exercise too now but fitting that in is a juggle.

Any other 40+ year olds feeling similar?
I realise it's an inevitable natural process but it always seemed such a way off!

Ah, I see you're 46
Well done...was thinking maybe up to 40 bug didn't want to appear rude.

AmberGreyson · 29/08/2016 08:57

honestly it does not upset me

dowser thanks! I didn't include my eyes so as not to put myself, and suspect you'd say over 35 if you did, but still, I run a lot and don't think it has aged me.

I had this. Around 42 I seemed to age overnight. Quite shocking as up until then I'd always looked quite youthful and made a real effort to remain so. I noticed that my skin just looked awful and it had lost that lovely glow and plumpness and my eyeshaddow & base just wouldnt go on like it used to.

I started taking care of myself, no alcohol, sugar, late nights, etc.. started drinking LOTS of water, exercising, early nights, eating right. Plus, the treatments. Oh god, I must have spent a fortune on teeth whitening, crowns, eyelash extensions, peels, lasers, Radio Frequency (RF), CACI, IPL, facials, botox, fillers, the list is endless.

I think if you stay slim, look after your skin and hair, you're halfway there. It's really hard though and made harder by peri-menopause (kicks in anywhere up to 10 years before actual menopause), so be warned.

Ageing seems to happen in spurts like growing when you're young. It's not a gradual process from my experience and that of friends and family. I'm dreading 50!

I think I'm a few years away from a face-lift/neck lift but when the treatments no longer work, I'll be there at the surgeon's office.

Brastrap I would have guessed at around 39/40 so you're deffinitely ageing well. You have lovely hair and great lips (v. jealous - mine are on the thin side). I don't think the side effects of runing (gravity x multiples) show up until you're older, depending of course on how long you've been running and in what climate.

Yes, I chose figure over face a few years ago so have to go down the filler route as without it, I'd be very gaunt in the cheek and temple areas. Looks very natural (no giant Kardashian-esque cheeks) and means I can keep my weight down without looking ill.
