Would short hair suit me but more importantly should I cut it?

Well I am a 36 year old woman who has had the same long hairstyle all her life. I was definitely going to cut it after I got married, but I decided to wait till after I had children, then I felt I would wait till I was 30 and then of course I chickened out! My hair is flat, thin and poker straight and I have been going to the same stylist for years to have the ends off, she is dying to do something stylish with it and every time I am there she always jokes about doing something, anything with it!! About 3 years ago I saw the short style below and I really love it and I think I would feel so confidant once it is short. I have shown it to my stylist and she feels it would be ideal as my hair type seems similar and she feels it would suit my face. I would so love to have a total new me but I am just so nervous about doing it, the thought of being at the salon and actually having my long hair cut short is so so scary. What do you all think, should I or shouldn't I....... and has anyone else had a similar quandary...........

Would short hair suit me but more importantly should I cut it?

I'm going against the grain here, I think your hair is gorgeous as it is. (I'm biased, Grin I have hair of a similar length, that's also flat and thin but very slightly wavy and the ends are uneven.) If you really want a change maybe add some layers? I think they would look nice, especially if they're a bit messy.

I really would not get it cut like the pic you posted OP. I think you will really regret it. You have lovely hair. However I do like the style posted above by youvegottobekidding. Very nice.

I would first go for a shoulder length cut with a long fringe or layers at the front to give a bit of height.

I had long hair ( just above bra strap length so not as long as yours) and liked the idea of going shorter to a bob. (so less of a dramatic change than you are considering but still a big change). My hairdresser (senior at a famous salon - not bragging just saying reputable and experienced) told me that she refused (or at least strongly counselled against) v.long to v. short cuts because clients found it very traumatic and usually ended up cryng. She always recommends an intermediate stage.

She also said that in her experience that v.long/v. short change request tends to be provoked by something emotionally unhealthy (eg. divorce/desire for radical change because dislike of self/upset/dumped by bf) so that this compounded risk of client trauma.

Hi everyone, just an update, I have been to see my hairdresser and I am booked in for Thursday! We have not finalised a style and she agrees that the longer fringe styles are more trendy but I do prefer my hair out of my eyes. She has asked me to look out for some more styles that I like and suggested I look at the various haircuts of Michelle Williams , Jennifer Goodwin and Keley Cuoco. Apparently these are the 3 Queens of short hair at the moment!!!
I am please most people feel I need a change and any further options or ideas would be welcome.

if you prefer your hair out of your eyes keep it longer so that it will tuck behind your ears.

Honestly - don't. I cried when I went from waist length hair to a posh spice haircut when she first had her bob cut (a very long time ago). I started growing it on day 2.

Good luck for Thursday. Your hairdresser sounds quite clued up and keen to find a style that suits you.

I would second the suggestion to donate your lovely hair to charity if you have a lot cut off.

I'd love to see a photo of your new do when you've had it done Smile.

I can't post the message I wrote you, basically said don't do it.

Sent from my iPadYou and my daughter could be twins.
She has same kind of hair and is almost 40. Doesn't look it ( and I can't believe it )

She has a side parten, so yes get rid of the middle one, I don't find them at all flattering.

She's had hers cut to just below her shoulders and had very fine highlights ( just a few on the crown area ) in light blonde and it looks stunning.

She's a home Edder to three lively children. Doesn't have time to put the work into a short style. It's just wash, brush and go.

We long, straight hair people have it quite easy I think. I've had long longish hair most of my life. I'm 64.

Times I had it short were a disaster.
At 14 I went from long like yours to a pixie cut. It looked nothing like the photo I took in. It wouldn't. Her hair had probably been primped and primed and goodness knows what to give it body and oomph.
Mine was just chopped.
I cried for days and let it grow back as quickly as possible.

Had it hacked again aged 28 and dyed dark red. Still wasn't me.

So back to long bobs , highlights and my current length of below my shoulders
