Nursing bras (neither fashionable, nor beautiful)

Hi there,

I'm pretty big of bust (38FF/G) - currently looking for a couple of nursing bras (due to give birth wk 1 October).

Do you have any advice as to lovely, soft, yet supportive, nursing bras, for my
gargantuan ample bosom.

I'm not even sure if I need to buy my normal size, or a size up...

It's only to see me over between birthing (which makes me sound like a cow) and getting my shit together to go to the shops post-birth to actually try some on (and hopefully not leak all over the buggers).

lovecats thanks for the info - when I was looking the widest available was 18mm but this was three years ago so no doubt things have changed.

Thelovecats · 24/08/2016 06:22

I think that is the widest available, but those will works with wider straps (up to 25mm) if there isn't too much padding on the straps so it depends on the style.

Brilliant, thanks all! I'll have a good look at all the options!!

I do quite fancy one of those crop top jobbies - imagine the softness after 20 years wearing underwires!!

I think I'll get one of those crop top jobbies that people have mentioned, you're absolutely right that I'll have no idea how big my boobs will be day-to-day, so it's worth letting them settle down a bit...

Here's a list of links of all the bras you've recommended, useful for me to work through (and for all those other big boobed new mothers).

I don't think Jojo M-B, Figleaves, H&M go up to the mahoosive size I'll be needing.

5madthings - I think converting normal bras might be beyond my utter cackhandedness- limited skills :)

Thataintnoetchasketch that asos one is SO PRETTY, so non-nursing. I think I need to work my way up to it post-baby!

Thanks!!

I've been eyeing these up. Custom made and beautiful www.etsy.com/uk/shop/1LuckySewandSew?section_id=19613476

Sadly my boobs have kind of settled now DD is a bit older (still breastfeeding but not as often), and I know my boobs will grow again when I have DC2 but that's not til January and I don't know what size I'll be Sad

Thelovecats · 24/08/2016 20:46

It's maybe worth looking at billybums as well here. The lady who makes them is really helpful

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 24/08/2016 22:33

Anita underwired all the way. Get one fitted at R&P then buy online for (much) less. If the bra is properly fitted - with the wires on your ribcage, not cutting into your breast tissue - it won't cause any problems.

I found John Lewis own brand pretty good.
