Outfit for nice restaurant

It's my wedding anniversary at the weekend and at short notice we've got a babysitter so we're going to a posh restaurant.

I've not been for a nice meal for aaaaages. The stuff I would've worn before is out of fashion (not that I'm that bothered) or doesn't suit or fit me now.

So, what do people wear now. I'm 5'3, early 30s, size 10. I used to be an hourglass but children stole my tits so I guess that makes me a pear. Restaurant is a nice, fine dining type of place but rural Yorkshire so not super trendy or anything.

Also, it'll need to be delivered quite quickly.....

Oh fuck low key cool. This is the op's wedding anniversary; she doesn't go out very often; it's a posh restaurant.

Go as fancy as you like.

taybert · 18/08/2016 16:18

It's ok Flo my feet won't be low key

Make sure you put them on the table.

brassbrass · 18/08/2016 16:21

could a padded bra solve the dress fit issue? I did this recently for a wedding guest outfit and it made all the difference

Cellardoor23 · 18/08/2016 16:22

That's a nice top Smile you can easily accessorise it if you wanted to as well. Like you said with maybe a nice necklace, earrings or a silk scarf? My only concern would be if you spill food down it but I'm quite clumsy though! Lol

So ordered a couple of shirt type tops, a nice top, sized up on the coated skinnies (can always use some others if they don't work out). Think I'm sorted.......

Who will see the shoes? Won't your feet be under a table all night?

taybert · 19/08/2016 07:18

Well, I've got a very weak bladder so there will be multiple trips to the toilet.

Do people not usually bother with shoes in restaurants then? What about trousers and skirts?

Shoes make the outfit!

taybert · 19/08/2016 08:55

Exactly! I usually build an outfit around the shoes tbh. It doesn't matter if no-one sees them, I know I'm wearing them!

I must admit that I don't really notice what people are wearing on their feet unless it is ridiculously inappropriate - stiletto heel boots in snow for example.

Floisme · 19/08/2016 10:53

I used to think no-one looked at shoes but I've got more into them lately and I've been surprised at how many do notice and comment. Just make sure your feet aren't hidden away under the table. (Try not to trip up the waiter though.)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/08/2016 11:03

I can't get excited about shoes.

taybert · 19/08/2016 11:10

It's funny isn't it? I can't imagine putting an outfit together and not thinking much about the shoes. Handbags in the other hand are always an afterthought. And I definitely need to put more effort in to coats.

Not bothered about bags either, so long as they are functional.

Good point about coats. I used to have the most amazing bright ink coat and I still miss it. :(

Floisme · 19/08/2016 11:21

I don't get this love for bags at all but I'm very partial to a good coat as some of you may know Wink

NicknameUsed · 19/08/2016 11:24

I don't notice bags either and wouldn't be able to tell an expensive brand from a cheaper one.

Ginslinger · 19/08/2016 11:50

I like a good coat too - and a jacket

taybert · 19/08/2016 11:51

I'm going to get a nice coat this winter. It's a resolution. It's the right thing to do.
