Can I cut my own hair?

Not ideal, I know, but can I? Only to tidy up the ends.

It's getting to be a nightmare to untangle and I'm going to a wedding in a month but no money for hair cut before then.

Any suggestions? I've got wavy hair, almost curly. It's curly underneath but a bit crap on top. I've been trying the curly girl method which is making the underneath even curlier, but the top still shit, so I'll have to blow dry it for wedding probably. Would rather not have raggy ends

Boots do a pretty decent pair for about six quid.

Nothing like proper salon ones but better than kitchen onesGrin

I put the pony tail low down on the back of my head, use two bands (one to hold it in place, one to cut along at the desired length), and v sharp scissors

V liberating and saves a fortune. I also get compliments so it obviously can't be too bad....

I'm a grower so try to stay away from hair dressers as much as poss. I'm going to save up and go to a dear one and get it all cut nice, then long (long!) periods in between - investing in a good pair of hair dressing scissors means I can do this while maintaining the cut. :)

It scares me when hairdressers gush over cutting huge amounts of hair off on fb videos lol.

Coconut oil, head massage, shower cap, overnight 3 times a week does wonders too. :) x

Sorry to keep you in suspense, I had a gin whilst blow drying my hair last night so didn't think chopping it would have been a wise move. Have just straightened and cut it this morning and I'm pleasantly surprised! I decided to do it with the ponytail at the hair line, and I've got some lovely long layers around my face now. I was a bit of a wimp and took the tiniest bit off, so I'll probably have another go in a week or so, but I've got rid of the worst bits of the dry ends.

Thanks all!

I've done this for years - i take a bit more time: I section off my 'front' hair (just back to above ears) then basically ponytail the rest (thought I do it in small sections). Make sure you 'point cut' across rather than straight cutting a line - it's much softer that way.

Then I cut face framing layers in the front.

Good luck!

Oh I'm glad it turned out well! After encouraging you to do it, I would feel a bit responsible if it had all gone tits up.
Very sensible not to attempt a drunk cut last night Smile.

I'm now swishing my hair as I clean because it hasn't been straightened in about a year and feels so nice Grin
