I've cut my own hair and fucked it up

So I've done the mumsnet hair cut a few times, usually with good results. However today I was feeling saucy and decided to lop some off the length as well by putting my hair in a ponytail at the nape and cut some off.
It's not good. I'm going to have to wear my hair up until I can afford a hairdresser to sort it. It's going to be an embarrassing cut of shame. Blush

Looks lovely. In fact you've inspired me to go and hack at mine.( I'm poor and need a haircut, what else can I say?)Smile

Ice cream, this is the pony tail dry cut. Except that I have cut in a fringe and taken some off the length as well. I guess as it is thick and wavy I can get away with it.
It does make you think, I don't look at other people's hair and scrutinise the precision of the cut...it either looks ok or it doesn't. I can't really tell the difference between a home hack job and a 3 hour salon session.

I did panic when I saw my wonky hair bottom but in retrospect I wouldn't notice it on anyone else so I'm not going to worry about it! Smile

I don't enjoy the hairdresser, my DP loves getting his hair cut, he finds it relaxing and a good reason to take an hour out of work, I find it anxiety ridden and feel vulnerable sitting in the chair and I never like what they do to my hair... This has lead to many a Mumsnet haircut!

Yours is fine OP, you have hair that can pull it off.

I've got the same haircut! Did the same thing! I didn't get time to book a hair appointment before we went on holiday! The thing is, it'll grow back! When you next go to the hairdresser it will all be ok...and in the meantime you're the only one who notices it I bet.

If you put your hair into a pony tail at the nape of your neck you will end up with a graduated cut as the shortest part will be at the back of your neck, getting longer towards the front. Is that what you were aiming for?

I've cut a shorter stacked bob at home using this method. Here's what I would do if you're feeling brave..

-Leave out a section of your hair starting just behind the ear on each side of your face, put the rest into a ponytail at the nape of your neck,

-Hold the ponytail firmly and with very sharp scissors, cut down through the ponytail. Point the scissors at the ground and cut down, keeping the scissors in a straight vertical position.

-Take the pony tail out and using two mirrors so you can see all angles, cut the side sections so they join up with the back.
Your aim is to have the front of the hair longer than the back so you will be cutting the sides at a slight angle. Tidy up any stray bits you may have missed.

You need sharp scissors, dry hair and it's best to do it when sober. Wink

I did have a go at this yesterday, but I seem to have the wrong sort of hair.. Ah well. At least it's more of a style than it was. Not brqve enough to post a pic sorry.

Looks fine OP. I wouldn't think anything was amiss with that at all. Your hair is lovely.

I've been doing the MN haircut since 2009! Go me! Only ever had one vague disaster and it grew back in weeks. I get my mum to trim the overall length as that's the one thing I don't know how to do. I detest hairdressers with a passion.

All I need help with is the colour which is greying dark blonde. Have no idea where to start with that.

Ilostit- Aha I got the maths wrong, I was thinking it would be straight at the bottom but of course it won't be when you think about it.
Someone at work was telling me about their £200 hair do today. (Cut, colour, highlights). They looked pretty horrified at my £10 effort. Hair dye was on offer in Sainsburys.

I bought a Creaclip and absolutely fucked up the front of my hair. It's taken months for it to look ok again. I think Creaclips work fine in the hands of intelligentmore skilled people, though.

Your hair looks ngreat to me, OP.
