What's that about with the names in the mini Boden catalogue then?

Browsing my "clothes porn" in the bathroom earlier I was amazed at what people call their kids.

Yes there are Emma and Emily, but also Luca (for a girl), Sunny, Tessel, Sterre, Blom, Bibi...

The boys are called Blu, Kaj, Jaino and Xanti.

Are these names? DH says posh people (Boden models are not models, y'know, but just children of friends) have to give their kids bonkers names nowadays just to be sure they are different!

made me laugh anyway. Apologies to any parents of Xantis or Blus out there.

Some of those names sound a bit Scandinavian. 'Blom' sounds like a chair from Ikea.

misdee · 28/01/2007 00:27

there was the exact same theread the other day.

NappiesGalore · 28/01/2007 00:28

i think blom is a fork. or a cheese grater or something... (ikea)

swedishmum · 28/01/2007 00:49

I've known a few kids who've been in the catalogue. Am sure it's all genuine.

hunkermunker · 28/01/2007 00:51

I'm going to have six more children and call them Pitchfork, Hedgefund, Weasel, Jumpstart, Knickerbocker-glory and Globe.

oh i agree cali - in fact, im going to get my coil taken out forthwith in order to concieve two more children and name them zabaglione and tiramisu... if only there were twins in my family... do you think i could get ivf to get twins even if im the most fertile person in the universe?? cant be arsed with 18 more months of pregnancy...

nogoes · 28/01/2007 12:07

I think on the other thread someone said that the children are from Scandinavia so Tessel might be the equvalent of Thomas and Jaino probably means James or something similiar.

quadrophenia · 28/01/2007 12:09

the models are given names they aren't actually their names

quadrophenia · 28/01/2007 12:09

the kids are English

NappiesGalore · 28/01/2007 12:11

i would imagine you are right nogoes.

those names are too ordianry and boring for me anyway (what if i end up living in scandinavia and it turns out all my kids are called Dave or some other such common-ness! oh, the horror.)
nope, Zabaglione (Zabs) and Tiramisu (Tirany) it is for my unborn treasures...

NappiesGalore · 28/01/2007 12:15

oh quad - dont spoil it

actually, once upon a time, i was in a few magazines n stuff - my pic that is. always attached to stories or articles about other people and to look at them, youd think they were about me... fooled a few people and had some v odd conversations w people who recognised me from the pics... so pics in magazines rarely relate to the words attached. thats gone and shattered a few illusions, hasnt it??

hunkermunker · 28/01/2007 15:40

[sulks]

Knickerbocker-glory's actually an old family name, actually, actually.

[mortally offended]

NG, what sort of magazines are we talking here? [boggles]

Pinotmum · 28/01/2007 15:46

There is a Sunny in the pre-school where I work and a Xanthi in Dd's year at school. There was a song called Luca by Suzanne Vega and that Luca was female iirc. I don't live anywhere posh btw

NappiesGalore · 28/01/2007 15:50

now you mention it, i know a Xanthi, India and Honor - they are sisters, the duaghters of my (lovely) quite posh as it happens builder.

HM - dont know if i should tell... i quite like the idea of you boggling in curiosity...

Clary · 28/01/2007 23:36

right ladies had missed other thread (been away for a bit) so will go and amuse self there.

Quad, is that true tho? And if so, why such a bizarre mix of normal and frankly odd?

quadrophenia · 29/01/2007 16:00

divamumdiva · 29/01/2007 21:04

NappieGalore, Lol at your posh but builder firend or neighbor I quite like Allegra this time, hope its a girl.

NappiesGalore · 29/01/2007 22:24

its aspirational, innit clary? you're sposed to think, 'oh what exotic and interesting people wear these clothes...better get me some of that glamorous lifestyle right now!' and buy some.

NappiesGalore · 29/01/2007 22:25

doesnt allegra mean go faster or something?? (i failed GCSE )

NotAnOtter · 29/01/2007 22:27

vanessa feltz daughter allegra

MrsJohnCusack · 29/01/2007 22:36

Allegra is an Italian name and I believe it means lively

NappiesGalore · 30/01/2007 21:33

GCSE music, that was sposed to say. italian music terms... yes allegra very similar to one of those, which would mean 'lively' makes sense.
i like the meaning as it goes. not sure about the name, personally
