Tattoo Concealer

Hi,

Has anyone tried a tattoo concealer and can recommend the best one?
Think I want to give it a go on my forearm tattoos that I now loathe for my upcoming wedding but am sceptical to if they actually work well or not.

Apparently Dermablend is quite good, think it's a bit expensive though.

I read a post ages ago from a bride who's make up artist covered her tattoo by putting yellow eyeshadow all over it then concealer or foundation (can't remember which) and then powder.

These dudes sell concealer for tattoos too, still bit expensive but if you don't need too much it'll probably last.

The success of concealing stuff on your arm is not to just cover the bit, but to have some form of makeup over both arms so they look the same.

A MAC assistant showed me how to cover up my huge purple scar on my arm, plus the other extensive surgical scars by using red lipstick on the purple bit (to counteract the colours), concealer, face and body foundation (over both arms), then a sparkly powder which distracted your eye from the overall colour. Was totally amazing and looked good from a distance and close up

Do they tend to smudge though? What sort of powder would I set it with etc

The specialist cover products work with their own powder etc - theres a few like Veil who do kits. They stay very firmly, so don't smudge
How big is your tat, and what colour? I think that the larger and more colourful the harder they are to cover successfully.

dermablend is what I've heard of before.

You need a red tone first to counteract the blue tones. Then a flesh tone over the top. Blend the edges with foundation - mac face and body is good, and water resistant. Set with powder or setting spray. Airbrushing over the red concealer gives a good finish but you would need to pay a makeup artist for that. You can buy tester palettes of Dermacolor concealers reasonably cheaply from theatrical makeup shops.

Bottom row second colour from the left is the red tone to cancel out the blue tones of the tattoo.

Dermablend is the best iv tried but it is expensive.

If its only for occsionl use and only for few tattoos it might be worth a look.

What area are you in OP? If you are near me I will do it for you. It may be cheaper to just get a makeup artist than buy all the kit anyway. Not that I would charge you!

Ok yes I'am on an extreme budget. Our wedding is not a big proper wedding at all so I want something that I can use again, for the odd nights out and occasions etc.

When I googled tattoo concealers, a Kat Von D one kept coming up, anyone tried that one?

I tried dermablend as a foundation and it was awful! I'd go to a Mac counter and ask them for advice and a trial

Weird blue I use dermablend and its fantastic. The only ing I find is that it needs a good dose of the settinpowder to keep it in place.

Mac don't sell a concealer strong enough to cover tattoos. Dermacolor is what most pro makeup artists would use. It's made by Kryolan, a theatrical and pro makeup manufacturer. Dermablend is a consumer product made by Vichy. I have the foundation to use as a concealer but it is not heavy enough for tattoo coverage. I have never tried their concealers.

You don't want the Vichy dermablend foundation or concealer.

You want the original dermablend cover creme product. Totally different and will cover pretty much anything when applied correctly. The accompanying setting powder is good with it (think that's been re-branded as Vichy dermablend but same formula as original) setting all day.
