Sea spray, with fine hair

I am 41, and have just longer than jaw length mid brown hair. It's very fine, there are some long layers in it. It is kinky, rather than wavy or curly, so I straighten it.

Hairdresser was rough drying it today, and I liked it looking messy. He said to achieve that look, I should buy a salty sea beach type spray.

Any recommendations please, particularly for my hair type? I need to be able to buy it from my large local Boots.

Right! I've bought the Mark Kill and the got2be one. I will be experimenting tonight!

I did know that Krist1na but thank you. I pop into Boots for lunch, so no problem to pick up the hair stuff at the same time Smile

Yes that the right Mark Hill spray.

Look forward to hearing what you think of both sprays :)

Mamia15 · 18/07/2016 18:02

that's

WellTidy · 18/07/2016 20:27

Right. I've used the mark hill spray. I think I need to use more of it. I like what it does, but my hair looks quite fluffy and i was hoping that the spray would sort of weigh it down a bit more so that it didn't spring up. I would like it to look like I'm in the middle of rough drying it and it stays looking like that. At the moment, it looks fluffy and frizzy.

I will try again with more product tomorrow evening and report back.

this is sort of the look I'm after, accepting that my hair is slightly longer and nowhere near as thick (I also have brown hair) and I am in no way delusional that look like Meg Ryan!

Hi op, you've described my hair to a T.
I use got2b, it's great and affordable. To stop hair going crispy blow dry a bit with a heat styling spray at the roots to lift, then spray salt spray in and tousle round your fingers, leave to dry a bit and then just as hair is drying spray with some Elnett hairspray and scrunch. Sounds like a lot of product but you only need a little of each and as you don't over load your hair stays soft.

WellTidy · 18/07/2016 20:39

Oooh Edmund. Thank you for that. I will do that tomorrow night as I bought the got2be as well as the mark hill, based on recommendations upthread. I have all of those products. I do t have a diffuser (though I did in the 90!), is that what you use to scrunch, or are we talking hand scrunching like we used to do with mousse with 80/90s perms?

I got the Redken Beach wave and it's awesome! My hair is naturally wavy but this spray holds the wave instead of it going fluffy, it's very defined and I've been wearing my hair wavy most weekends now

Mamia15 · 18/07/2016 21:27

You need to scrunch your hair or twist strands while rough drying it to bring out the waves

EdmundSlackbladder · 18/07/2016 22:31

Just hand scrunching as you spray the hair spray in. I tried diffusing my hair for the first time in many, many years a few weeks ago. It did not end well.

EdmundSlackbladder · 18/07/2016 22:32

Prior to that yes it was the 90's perm, complete with crush mousse and bitch flick Blush

Sorry to report that its not working for me. My hair is looking really dry, fluffy, frizzy and not at all wavy. I am crap with hair, and had high hopes, but it is not to be Smile. I tried some mousse on it this morning (haven't used mousse for ages) and its giving me the effect I was looking for. The mousse I used was this GHD one but the dated packaging on mne shows that I've had it ages.
