Tights and boots in July???

Is it just that I'm noticing more or is it a change in fashion sense (or are more women skint and not buying new outfits) - loads of women where I work have not stopped wearing their 40D opaques and boots when spring came this year. Down town Bristol and on the train, it is the same - even in July.
Is such an outfit really year round and fashionable?

But it's cold here in not London as well as wet. No summer clothing is appropriate because it feel nothing like summer.

Jmangel · 16/07/2016 18:59

So because of this thread, I ditched my black opaques and boots for work yesterday and got absolutely soaked to the core in flat ghillies and bare legs - think I now have a cold coming!
FGS, dress for weather and not the time of year!

JemimaMuddledUp · 16/07/2016 19:30

I think the weather has a lot to do with it.

Today I wore jeans, a thermal vest, a hoodie, a waterproof coat, wellie socks, wellies and a bobble hat. I would have looked prettpretty silly dressing for the season rather than the weather at a very cold and wet football tournament!

maggiethemagpie · 16/07/2016 19:44

I saw someone wearing a faux fur coat the other day.

Despite the shite weather, I cannot bring myself to wear boots in 'summer'. Boots are strictly an October to April thing for me.

No boots here but I'm still in black tights. I'm in Scotland and it's definitely cold enough for tights unfortunately.

LockedOutOfMN · 16/07/2016 19:50

I was in jeans and boots, a sweater, jacket and scarf when I came to England a week ago; it was absolutely freezing! Presume these people are dressing for the weather rather than for any kind of fashion.

Maybebabybee · 16/07/2016 19:50

Wish I was in Scotland. It's muggy and horrible in London. Keep trying to persuade dp to move up north but he won't have it.

Disclaimer: I hate hot weather.

Daisygarden · 16/07/2016 19:54

I wear black tights all year round unless it is summery/sunny/hot weather. If it's 17 degrees or under, it's black tights and ballet pumps. If it's 18-20, it's black leggings and sandals (and a summer tunic or dress). 20+ it's bare legs (but with midi dress unless on holiday, then I'd wear shorter).

I can't imagine doing the school run in bare legs unless it was boiling. I just feel underdressed without something covering my legs unless very hot. Also I have little DCs so often bending down - don't want to worry about flashing my underwear!

Allinafankle · 17/07/2016 13:20

If it's cold, I wrap up, if it's hot I don't ... normally. But right now I'm having a course of phototherapy treatment for psoriasis and have to keep covered up meaning I'm currently sweltering in jeans, long sleeved tops and trainers! And for work yes I'm in tights or trousers even though I'd love to be in a dress and sandals. So it's not always as cut and dried as it might appear!

BestIsWest · 17/07/2016 13:45

It doesn't help that both the train and my office have the aircon turned up so it's freezing. I went bare legged on Thursday but had to go and buy tights at lunchtime as I was so cold.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 17/07/2016 19:11

Er, you don't get colds from getting wet or cold Confused.

And if you think you're going to get drenched then you carry a raincoat and umbrella?

tigerdriverII · 17/07/2016 19:15

I've been wearing opaques - M&S bodysensors- with brogues quite a bit in the past few weeks. I feel barmy but the weather has been awful.

However have to go to London tomorrow and spend time on the Tube: dreading it. Nothing will keep me cool.
