she has gone from having the most beautiful pink and white rose petal skin to pimples and spots although her cheeks are still flawless

Her skin is sensitive and we are looking for recommendations for a cleanser, spot cream,/gel etc etc. She is using wipes at the minute and I don't think they are any cop at cleansing

Thank you

Try Effaclar Duo cream, it's brilliant! Treats spots but doesn't make the skin go flakey, and is also ok under make up.

i use cetaphil cleanser, although I think it's a bit of a love it or hate it product
it's very mild, so won't increase oil production. you can use it as a cream cleanser, or wash off with a flannel, which I much prefer.

I like the salicylic acid spot creams - all the teen skin brands do one (Clean and clear, neutrogena). If that doesn't help see a GP.

Superfacialist cleanser with salicylic acid and a good moisturiser.

Alternatively Cytaphil cleanser.

Use a clean flannel every day to wash off the cleanser. See Caroline Hiron's cheat sheet.

I swear by Johnsons Clean & Clear deep cleansing lotion as a toner, contains salicylic acid which is good for keeping the skin clear.
I recommend the Vichy Normaderm range too, really good for problem skin.
It's worth checking vitamin intake too, vits A, C & E, zinc & selenium supplements good for skin too.

I wish someone had told me at this age to treat my oily, spotty skin really gently, as if it were sensitive. My advice would be:

Clinique Take the Day Off balm cleanser with a clean flannel - costs about £20 but lasts forever, you only need a tiny bit
Clarins Gentle Exfoliating toner, a few times a week - again, about £20ish but lasts a long, long time
A facial oil at night, which probably sounds silly, but will help balance out the oil production. Boots Botanics do a good one which is very cheap, or a rosehip oil (Trilogy is good).
Moisturiser-wise, she probably won't need much, maybe a range like Simple or one of the French pharmacy brands, LRP or similar.

And bin the wipes, they just move anything on the skin about.

A proper gentle cleaning routine is key - use fresh cotton wool pads, no wipes, no germ ridden flannels etc.

If she wears make up, I second the Vichy range mentioned upthread or look for non comedogenic stuff that won;t clog up her pores.

FelixFelix · 05/07/2016 10:59

Cetaphil will be good for her. It's non comedogenic and very gentle. I wouldn't start introducing loads of new products to teenage skin as it may make it worse. I was recommended Cetaphil by my dermatologist.

I use the cleanser and the moisturiser and would highly recommend.

If its oily then i can recommend charcoal soap i get mine from Lush, cleared up my oily skin after about a month of constant use then i use the tea tree water from there as an antibacterial works every time - also worked for my friends 15 year old son who was getting some rather large oily spotty zones.

Elemis cleansing balm and then apricot Toner, perfect for oily and sensitive

KatharinaRosalie · 05/07/2016 11:28

Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream and Normalizing Oil. Honestly, the cleanser is a miracle worker, only thing that helped my pregnancy hormonal skin.

mishmash1979 · 05/07/2016 11:31

If u r prepared to spend a little then dermalogica do a range for sporty skin.

mishmash1979 · 05/07/2016 11:31

Spotty

LazySusan11 · 06/07/2016 08:35

My 12 yr old dsd uses Elemis sensitive cleansing wash, it's a good all over body wash great for face and bum!

pippinandtog · 06/07/2016 08:47

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, then skin tonic, then moisturiser for oily skin.

Gatekeeper · 07/07/2016 07:59

thanks everyone

we got cetaphil cleanser, some flannels and cotton pads, and roche posay effaclar duo and some Johnson clean and clear cleansing lotion to use on a night so see how that goes

Make sure she uses a moisturiser too, you didn't mention having one

PNGirl · 07/07/2016 12:28

When I was about 15 Lush Imperialis moisturiser sorted me out.

FelixFelix · 07/07/2016 12:34

Agree with jo, make sure she still moisturises even though she has oily skin. Make sure it's an oil-free one. Hope her skin clears up soon!

Gatekeeper · 07/07/2016 14:18

right then; will get the cetaphil one as well then I can nick it!

I get very bad oily skin in the same place and bad breakouts, I've got the same complexion too.

I use clarins oily/combination skin cleansing milk and toner and it does wonders for me. I got a big 200ml bottle in January, lasted well till now so you get a good 5 months out of it even though it's expensive. (That's using it twice a day)
