Skin tags (picture)

Since having DS I have a large, flappy skin tag on my neck, right where a necklace would fall.

My GP said they don't do them as its cosmetic and recommended a local clinic where they charge £250 a tag (I have a few less obvious ones). I asked if I could tie it off with a thread and she said she couldn't recommend that.

Any advice? Can it be done at home (it's quite large) or do I have to get it professionally done. Would you trust a beautician?

You can use nail clippers to cut skin tags off.

Its quite small.
As its on your neck I understand why youwant rid of it.

Tying dental floss around it?

Tie a hair round it, it'll go black and fall off in a few days.

I've tied off a couple successfully. Use dental floss, and tie it as tight as possible (it hurts!) . Once I'd got mine tied tight enough they dropped off after a day or so.

Tie fishing line/dental floss tightly around them and they'll drop off after a couple of days.

Yep. Tie some dental floss tight around the base, watch it fall black and drop off. Takes about 5 days maybe.

You might want to wear a polo neck during this process.

Also, £250 for skin tag removal?! Mamma-bloody-mia.

I tied dental floss around a large prominent skin tag under my arm put just above my bra strap. It was incredibly annoying and awkward. I managed to infect it which made it excruciatingly painful and I ended up having to pay for cream to clear up the infection. However I did have a happy ending as it then fell off!!
I've left the slightly smaller one alone..

Do you have a beauty salon near you which does electrolysis? I've had a couple done that way for about £40 for 15 minutes (means they have time do do a few/btlitz some hairs as well).

£250 for skin tag removal? They are taking the piss,big time! Tie a piece of scrupulously clean cotton or dental floss tightly around the base,making sure your hands are clean too,and leave it for 5 days. It SHOULD drop off. My daughter has done this 3 times with no problems.

I tied mine with sewing cotton and it fell off within a week.

I got rid of one with 'Wartner' wart freezing treatment

I have skin tags and have read about the dental floss approach but I just can't bring myself to do it - it freaks me out. I'm going to have to woman up.

I did get rid of one using Bazooka (as in Bazooka That Verucca) but the GP sounded so horrified when I told her that I've never repeated it.

TagBands - you can get them on Amazon. Work a treat (similar to tying thread around them) Not at all painful & easy to do.

Lemon essential oil got rid of mine. It slightly burns when you put it on neat but wasn't too bad. It took about 4 weeks to disappear.

I sterilised a pair of nail scissors and snipped mine off.

I had loads on my neck removed by a local beautician. About £40 all in.

What about ones that are brown? Can you tie those up too?

I've done a few of DH's using dental floss - it works fine.

It's important to make sure they are actual skin tags before attempting home remedies. Skin tags don't have any nerve ending so if you pinch them really hard you shouldn't be able to feel a thing.

£250? That's a disgrace. I asked one of the Doctors at our local practise if mine could be removed and she also said it would have to be done privately. Months later I was seeing a different Doctor at that practise who commented on the tag on my shoulder - turned out he had a new laser thing that he was desperate to try out and had it done in minutes for free.....(by free I mean I had to watch him and the nurse get all excited about their new toy which was a bit unnerving.....)
