where to buy good quality clothes

I'm fed up of all my t-shirts and tops shrinking. We do tumble dry but on the lowest setting. After I have worn them once they are all sitting on my midriff which isn't really up to too much exposure .

I also have about 3 pairs of trousers where the zip has broken.

I admit that I don't spend a fortune on my clothes but I would be happy to spend more for good quality stuff if it would last longer and especially not shrink. But I don't want to end up paying more for stuff that is equally poor.

Any suggestions - what about all you Boden girls - does their stuff last and keep its shape ? Where should I shop?

Of the Boden stuff I've bought most can't be tumble dryed and lots can't even be machine-washed, so I stopped buying much of their stuff after DS was born - have better things to do than hand-wash! Sorry not to have positive suggestions for where to try - I'm having a wardrobe crisis at the moment and am desperate to find a source of decent t-shirts which don't expose my midriff. Will watch this thread!

imho tumble drying kills clothes.I hardly tumble dry any of our clothes as I'm sick of things comming out slighty smaller. I'm not sure more expensive stuff would be any different.

oh I would love to know where I can buy tops that don't shrink in the dryer.

Not M&s or boden that's for sure

All my gap stuff stays in good condition

sunshinefairy · 22/01/2007 11:15

Gap for t shirts and trousers, wash well and keep shape. Primark/atmosphere T shirts are good too!!!!. Look for T shirts with high elastine 5% this helps with stopping them shrink.

I tumble all my Boden stuff and I've never noticed it shrinking!

Also, not so true about more expensive stuff not shrinking etc. Dh has lots of T-shirts by Ted Baker and the like and they are all non tumble dry - PITA

paddingtonbear1 · 22/01/2007 12:36

that's interesting MimmyPig - my dh has a few ted baker tshirts and I've ignored the label and tumble dried them all, lots of times. None have shrunk! M&S tshirts do shrink, as do Next. Gap stuff tends to be best.

pretty much anything from American companies can be tumbled.

Don't know how trendy you are, but LandsEnd are good for quality and washability

Why tumble dry? really bad for the environment and destroys clothes...

Saker · 22/01/2007 14:59

Thanks everyone for the advice. Sounds like Gap might be okay - I have never bought anything from there. I like Next stuff but find it doesn't last well either.

Bluejelly, I know tumbledrying is not good. I haven't really got any good excuses - Dh does most of the washing and as he isn't around in the day it generally gets dried in the evenings. Also it doesn't tend to need ironing if it has been tumble dried. I do feel bad about it environmentally though so will try to hang more out. However even if I do that, realistically most clothes are going to get tumble dried occasionally when the weather it not good so it would be nice to have stuff that doesn't shrink. Also because Dh does the washing I don't want to be really precious about my own stuff expecting him to wash it all separately and hang it up etc.

If I didn't tumble dry I'd never get any washing finished.
