What hair product to use when drying hair to get curls?

A mousse? A spray? I'm a bit clueless but am getting a hairdryer with a diffuser thingy, what do I need to use on my hair to get it to go curly when drying it? thanks

How much natural curl do you have in the first place?

I have hair that is neither curly nor straight but somewhere inbetween. So not a lot, but a bit.

Watching with interest as I have naturally curly long hair but it's fine and can easily go frizzy.. Natural drying is the only way but it's too long for the curl to bounce up now.

I'd say on a scale between 0 at one end being poker straight and 10 being very curly it's about a 3

Tigi catwalk curls rock on dripping wet hair that has been co-washed (no sulphates or silicones) then use a drier fitted with a diffuser on high heat and low blow.

I would say it will never be very curly then, no matter the product you put in it. You can encourage the wave though. If you straighten your hair regularly you will get a better result after you stop and your hair has a couple of washes. Mousse will do the trick but can leave your hair a bit 'crispy' so experiment with the amount your hair needs. Make sure you hold the hair scrunched gently in one hand, then, holding the diffuser underneath release the hair into the diffuser head. You can also get a similar effect with gel. I would finish the hair with a little (about the size of a pea or even less) hair wax on the ends, to stop any frizzy bits.
You could also try salt spray, which gives a nice tousled look. My hair is curlier than yours so that doesn't work as well for me. Good luck. Just take some time on your day off and have a play. Oh and own brand gel and mousse will work just as well.

Sea salt spray and a diffuser

I usually leave it to dry naturally then straighten it if I can be bothered, but have just had it cut short and want the 'tousled' look. Interestingly whilst in a hot country recently it went really curly all on its own which i'm sure was due to the humidity but it got me thinking that I do like it curly, and now it's short (chin length) it looks a bit messier than when it was longer as there is less weight to pull it down.

Maggie, when mine was shorter it was much easier. I dried it with my head upside down and used a very very wide comb (pound shop ) to brush it through and got the tousled look. Will find a pic.
