can someone help me with my awful spots??

since getting pregnant i've had the most awful spotty skin. i've always had very good - if slightly greasy - skin, and it's really getting me down.

DS is now 2 weeks old, and skin's starting to settle down a bit, but still quite spotty. i'm using an exfoliating facial scrub but no moisturiser as the oil just seems to ooze from every pore at the moment!

can anyone recommend a product that will give me my pre-pregnancy skin back??

If you're using a scrub, you might not be giving your skin a chance to settle down. I'd give the scrub a rest for a week, and see how it goes.

Don't cut out the moisturiser, just choose a light one like the Clinique one. When you're not out and about, don't wear any make-up round the house. And wash through your make-up brushes regularly to make sure you're not spreading the problem from one area to the next.

And drink loads of water (says I, sipping on my glass of wine

Should do the job. Even though you don't wear make-up, do you still cleanse your face each morning and night? Leave your nose and chin out of the equation, but moisturise the rest of your face.

Skin's a bit like being on a diet - if you starve yourself, your metabolism slows down. If you deprive your skin of moisturiser, your skin over compensates by becoming too oily.

Plus, you've just had a baby! Congratulations, and don't worry too much, everything eventually moves back into some kind of shape, even your skin.

GAWD, I'm sounding like those sales assistants that terrify the living bijesus out of me in dept stores.

Then it's your hormones, sorry! Are you BF?

theUrbanDryad · 19/01/2007 22:50

Yup, don't scrub, it just rips 'em open and spreads bacteria around. Give your skin a rest for a week or so, just facial wipes and your moisturiser everyday, then maybe invest in a mud/clay face pack to deepclean once a week or even better go for a facial and get your dh to hold the baby and pay for it.

Urban, I've been having a think about this; as it's your hormones, you might as well treat your skin the way you did in your teens. Try out OXY10 or Clearasil, but only use on your nose and chin.

I got mild antibiotic ointment/gel from Dr and it cleared up in no time - I was spending a fortune on Oxy b4 that. Your presciptions are free so make use of them - good spot cream can be expense!

I had terrible spots all on my neckline and neck. Turns out I was really anaemic(sp?) and since taking iron tablets my skin has totally cleared up apart from when I am due AF. If you have just had a baby it might be worth getting your iron levels checked.

I had a similar problem and went to the doctor. Was given a contraceptive pill that also helps with acne and settles down your hormones. Its a 6 month course but you obvioulsy can only have it if you not breast feeding. ..
