How much would you spend on a pair of sunglasses?

Just that really. I've just impulse-bought a pair online that I think are fab, but they were way more than I have spent before.

Just wondering what others would pay?

About a fiver. As they're not prescription I immediately take them off inside the house/in shops/when the sun goes in etc and it doesn't take long for them to get lost or scratched in my bag.

cressetmama · 12/06/2016 17:57

Too much... Maui Jim polarised. I have two pairs, and a few old pairs that I found in TKMaxx but no longer wear since I discovered MJ.

Eliza22 · 12/06/2016 18:40

Spent a lot today....£15 in Boots. I lose them all the time.

AveEldon · 12/06/2016 18:43

max £100

Hulababy · 12/06/2016 19:08

I had some Prada ones = they were between #220-250. They were a gift from DH some years back. I had managed to get a scratch on one lens and DH got me new sunglasses for my birthday this year - these were Ray Bans and they ended up being cheaper than the ones I was replacing. 14y dd is now wearing my old Prada ones - the scratch on the lens isn't, for some reason, in her sight line like it was for me.

Toffeelatteplease · 12/06/2016 19:15

I had some Oakleys (over £100 at the time) that were fantastic and lasted a good 10 years.

If I could afford it I would spend the same again. But I can't. So usually I spend 10 to 20 at tx maxx. They are good enough. You can tell the difference when driving and in bright sunshine, but good enough for the UK generally.

Glitteryfrog · 12/06/2016 19:20

£100ish duty free Ray Bans.
I love them

LadyAntonella · 12/06/2016 20:24

£15-£20 now. I have bought expensive sunglasses in the past and then lost them! Also I have a sunglasses devouring toddler who has broken three pairs of my sunglasses in her short lifetime.

mrsclooneytoyou · 12/06/2016 21:25

I have Fendi £250 ten years ago
Prada £220 five years ago
Chanel £300 two years ago
Michael korrs £50 last year TKmaxx

oliviafrombolivia · 12/06/2016 21:29

the more expensive they are, the sooner I will lose or scratch them..

specialsubject · 12/06/2016 21:53

a fiver; they are consumables as I buy wrap rounds and push them up on my head when talking to people. So they break in the end.

And never anything with a visible name.

midnightmoomoo · 12/06/2016 22:02

£20 max because I lose them or stretch them by pushing my hair back with them so any more than that would just be a waste of money!

Ijustneedmycoffee · 12/06/2016 22:03

cressetmama can I ask you do you like the Maui Jim lenses? I have a pair of horribly dated polarised Serengeti's and the lenses are incredible. Stunningly easy to wear and view through. I can't find any others that come close. I've heard Maui Jim's are v good. Would love to update mine

TrixieBernadette · 12/06/2016 22:07

I buy prescription ones through selectspecs online and spend about £20 a pair. Before that, £5 a pair from Claire's or primark!

RaeSkywalker · 12/06/2016 22:18

£50 max (non-prescription).

My most recent pair are £15 from Debrnhams.

Wolpertinger · 12/06/2016 22:20

£200-300 on prescription ones but then they last me until prescription changes and are always designer.

If they weren't prescription would prob be £20 max.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 12/06/2016 22:23

Around £180, but i will only buy nice looking polarised lenses. I bought some when i was struggling with winter motorway driving (the glare after rain and low sun etc) and now non-polarised lenses all seem crap and pointless in comparison!

Bails2014 · 12/06/2016 22:25

£150ish, but I buy something I like and expect it to last for years.

FankEweVeryMuch · 12/06/2016 22:26

I've had a £5.99 h&m pair for about 3 years. They're my longest lasting and most complimented sunglasses ever. They even made it back from being left on holidays last year.

I will be sad when they break, very sad.

cressetmama · 12/06/2016 22:26

Needcoffee, the Mjs are the only glasses that are better and more comfortable than the serengeti. They stay in place on your face better when running, which is why I bought them. Serengeti are good, but don't fit as close or stay as still.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 12/06/2016 22:34

last few pairs I have bought from Aldi...they tend to live in the cars, proper decent quality polarising lenses for £3.99

the ones from last year now live in my handbag, silver aviator style, and have had so many people complement them and ask if they are Rayban it's unbelievable. Folks tend to assume I have "good" sunnies as am a dispensing optician.

Ijustneedmycoffee specsavers other opticians are available do a range of lenses similar to the serengetis....polarising, with or without reactions and coatings and colour range, so that might be worth checking. Have a word with the DO there and ask.
I really prefer just the polarising for my specs.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 12/06/2016 22:35

and compliment!! dearie me, it's late!

RJnomore1 · 12/06/2016 22:38

Sunglasses are like umbrellas for me. The cost is in directly inverse proportion to amount of time it will take me to break or lose them.

Having "mislaid" my £150 Armani ones I'm currently sporting a pair that came free with a magazine last summer. I'll probably have them forever.

LBOCS2 · 12/06/2016 22:42

Between £75-125. I replace them every 2-3 years, usually because a child has broken them.

Ijustneedmycoffee · 12/06/2016 22:51

Thank you cressetmama. I love my Serengeti's so if Maui Jim's are better then I'm sold! I'll take a closer look.

Good idea Tondelaya. I'll try specsavers.
I would love something a bit more modern than my ancient dated Serengeti's but I want them to be just as good
