Breastfeeding tattoo

Hello! Looking for ideas for breastfeeding tattoos. It has been the most empowering and rewarding part of becoming a mother and I want to honor it ideally as a half sleeve or upper arm piece. Very much into the styles liked the attached!

Ideas welcome as well as recommendations for artists in the London area (or southern England).

Thank you xx

What a beautiful idea. X

PlaymobilPirate · 30/05/2016 00:02

I think they're awful- sorry.

burnishedsilver · 30/05/2016 00:06

I'm not sure your child will thank you in years to come.

TheCraicDealer · 30/05/2016 00:09

How long is it since you had your baby? There's a lot of rewarding and empowering parts of being a mother and you can't get a tatt of them all. I'd wait a while- if two, three years down the line you still feel the same go for it, but it's a pretty big statement piece to get when you're still hormonal in a baby fug.

Only1scoop · 30/05/2016 00:09

Oh dear

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 30/05/2016 00:13

Why don't you just take a photo of yourself feeding your baby? Much easier, cheaper, and not as horrible as those tattoos.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 30/05/2016 00:14

Are you a very new mum? I'd take some time to make sure this isn't your hormones talking.
How about becoming a read breastfeeding peer volunteer or similar?

BastardGoDarkly · 30/05/2016 00:17

Hmmmm, I'm not at all keen either, and I really like tattoos.

WhatWouldFlopDo · 30/05/2016 00:18

I quite like those. Do you have any other tatoos? Agree with waiting a while though.

NeverbuytheDailyMail · 30/05/2016 00:21

The first one is my favourite.

CatchingBabies · 30/05/2016 00:30

Not sure on those, I've often thought something like the oxytocin molecule would be nice as a tattoo though.

RupertPupkin · 30/05/2016 00:48

Wait at least a year post-weaning. Then go for it.

Tate15 · 30/05/2016 07:23

I don't like them at all!

I prefer mother and baby tattoo, like this kind of thing

The middle neotraditional one is lovely

Introducer · 30/05/2016 07:31

I considered a tattoo after I had dd and was feeding her (up to 2.5yo).

I waited until she stopped weaning and then didn't get around to it. I am ridiculously pleased I didn't get one.

I feel differently about it now - somewhat nostalgic at the time but now, only 2 years since she stopped feeding, it was one method of doing something for my child. There are so many different methods of doing things, e.g discipline, learning to read, eating, riding a bike, potty training etc, all of which have created a bond and special memories. Parents choose what they choose to do to fit their family; having a tattoo to remind me of that choice doesn't make sense to me now.

Consider it again in a year, and if you still feel the same get one, but I would wait a bit longer.

LadyAntonella · 30/05/2016 07:37

Oh I love tattoos but I would say hold off on this one (or go for something really small not a big sleeve). This could be hormones talking something you won't feel quite as strongly about in a few years' time.

Fairylea · 30/05/2016 07:41

Trust me when your child is a teenager breastfeeding will seem like a very small part of parenting! You might feel very differently.

My dh and I are covered in tattoos and know lots in the tattoo industry (dh only has his hands and neck tattoo free) but I wouldn't go for a breastfeeding tattoo, sorry.

As for artists, I would look at Abbie Williams, Mike Stockings, Jody Dawber, Rebecca Vincent, Kelly Violence (violet), Little Miss Becca at Jayne doe in Essex .. If you look those up on Instagram it will give you a starting point. They are Essex based. Not London I know but close.

SouthWestmom · 30/05/2016 07:47

Fairy lea can I hijack and ask a question?
Does your dh have his face tattooed? I'm really curious about this, and whether people still look the same afterwards (features wise) - I'm not anti tattoos so no hidden agenda; I have two and planning a third

Fairylea · 30/05/2016 07:55

Dh doesn't have a face tattoo because he works in a corporate role and wears a suit everyday and in a suit you'd never know he has a single tattoo! I'm not sure if he'd have a face tattoo otherwise, he is desperate to get his hands done though and plans to when he retires! I think some face tattoos can look really good, I have a friend who has leaves tattooed round the side of her face which looks very pretty and she can hide it under her hair if she feels she wants to. Personally I'm not a big fan of the trend of having a word tattooed across an eyebrow that seems to be a thing at the moment but lots seem to like it!

NicknameUsed · 30/05/2016 08:03

I think it is a really naff idea. Breastfeeding isn't empowering any more than changing a nappy. I breastfed DD but didn't feel the need to tell the world about it. The idea is a bit "look at me, look how clever I am, I am a fully paid up member of the breastapo"

Babettescat · 30/05/2016 08:21

Breastfeeding and changing a nappy are not quite the same, no.

Brestapo is s pretty sick allusion to Nazi SS Officers.

The tattoo is rubbish.

Laquila · 30/05/2016 08:30

Nickname - if the OP says she feels empowered, it's not really up to you to tell her she doesn't, surely?!

OP, i can understand that you're proud of having breastfed, and that you want to commemorate that relationship, but personally I'd wait and see how you feel in a couple of years time.

CallMeMousie · 30/05/2016 08:36

I think it's a lovely sentiment but I'm afraid I agree with everyone else - give it a bit more time and see how you feel, or maybe choose something more symbolic in the short term?

witsender · 30/05/2016 08:56

Some mean comments here...if someone manages to breastfeed for a long period and feels empowered by it why try and do them down? It is very different to changing a nappy, anyone can do that.

A couple of friends have similar, probably most in the middle style...funky retro style.

Style and beauty isn't the best place to ask though, too many posters concerned with what is 2016 vs 2015 and looking expensive. Grin

SouthWestmom · 30/05/2016 09:01

Fairy lea thank you for answering - how funny; like a secret identity!

I'm just curious about it - if make up can temporarily change features I wonder how tattoos can.
