Inspired by the fact that I've just snapped this up for £25, from a charity shop near my work:

www.cosstores.com/gb/Pleated_panel_dress/228955-5833677.1#c-24481

And I love it! Tell me of your most beloved finds. Not necessarily expensive things, anything that you just adore.

A full length half circle sage green suede skirt from Jaeger 1Euro never been worn with all the tags in it
Fits like a glove and utterly swishy so soft and utterly luxurious feeling
Someone said it was hundreds of pounds when new.
BARGAIN!

Ted Baker - little black dress - £3. Looks unworn. Perfect fit.

AgeOfEarthquakes · 28/05/2016 07:52

No amazing designer finds but a charity shop near me prices all their children's clothes at between 49p and £1.99. I go often as I love a bargain and practically all my DDs clothes are from there. Highlights include a £1.49 Gap coat DD2 wore all winter and a pair of unworn kids Birkenstocks I got DD1 for £1.

Brand new never worn Mint Velvet shoes rrp £130 bought for £40!
Fat face top, Zara top, Monsoon cardigan all for £18.
Dune shoes brand new £5
Hobbs skirt £5
I love love love charity shops - my friends are fed up with my bargains! 😄

ellequick · 28/05/2016 08:41

I'd love to find one with a good kids section. Hmmm, think I feel a new obsession brewing.

Lived in Tooting, south London for 28 years and bought a Vivienne Westwood white shirt with the distinctive crown emblem on it - £10!

Rollypoly100 · 28/05/2016 09:08

Wimbledon has the better charity shops - more monied residents!

savasanaaa · 28/05/2016 09:36

I recently discovered a charity shop which sells what seem to be factory seconds or slightly faulty brand new pieces from Cos, H&M, Warehouse, Jigsaw etc. Found many excuses to pop in there recently.

ellequick · 28/05/2016 09:37

Think that's the key isn't it Rollypoly100 - especially if it's particular brands that you're after. I read online that there is a charity shop in Marleybone which is just around the corner from the Vogue head office, and they get a lot of designer and high end stuff from the staff there.

Even the Oxfam shop in the swankiest part of my city is full of shite. Yet there's a dress agency round the corner - which I've already mentioned - that's really good. I can't believe the local, affluent residents aren't donating to Oxfam so I can only assume their stuff gets shipped off to areas where they can charge more.

ellequick · 28/05/2016 11:54

I hadn't heard of dress agencies before you mentioned Floisme What sort of prices are you looking at?

elle I think that's the name for them - when I was in New York recenlty, they called them 'consignment stores'. Some are more high end than others but normally they only sell stuff that's in good condition and reasonably current. The shop takes most of the money but the original seller gets a cut too. I recently bought a Cos jumper there for £20 and a Whistles top for £30. So not bad but not in the same league as a charity shop and the money isn't going to a good cause - although it's supporting a local, independent business.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 28/05/2016 12:31

last year someone with more money than sense was clearing out their never worn converses...on three separate occasions I got 3 brand new size 7s...none of them more than a fiver

gorgeous leather jacket...for a tenner, I looked up the brand, it was still current stock and £179 :o

I have had so many fabulous things from charity shops! I'd be here all day if I was to remember them all!

oooh denby butter dish for £3.99 ...immaculate!

HappinessLivesHere · 28/05/2016 14:14

Does anyone know of any good ones in Newcastle/Gateshead area??

Vloggylicious · 30/03/2018 08:15

Hi I love charity shopping, so much I decided to start vlog about it on YouTube:) if you have a min have a look.

CountFosco · 31/03/2018 00:42

I have a workmate who lives in Durham and seems to wear charity shop clothing exclusively. She has bought so many designer bargains it's ridiculous. So a train trip might be in order (for you and me!).

wellhonestly · 31/03/2018 08:39

Ooh, so many over the years.

Whistles velvet jeans.
Laura Ashley floral silk dress.
Silk chiffon top.
Lovely handbags.

Our local charity shops are no longer very cheap - I just spent £22 on a Theory silk blouse but in its defence it is gorgeous (and similar by this brand seem to be selling for £150-£250 new!)

ChiaraRimini · 31/03/2018 09:59

This year I have challenged myself not to buy any brand new clothes except underwear! Our local hospice shop often has good stuff.
I have about ten jersey wrap dresses for work that I have bought there, mostly Phase Eight, Monsoon etc, and always get complimented by colleagues on my lovely dresses. I have also found tops from Seasalt and Joules.
My favourite at the moment is a long black fake shearling coat which was £5 from Cancer Research, had loads of compliments on it and it's super warm.

Floisme · 31/03/2018 10:03

I know this is an old thread but it's interesting to see how I was moaner in chief only two years ago. I've had notably more success over the last twelve months e.g. Margaret Howell coat for £18. (I spent another £40 getting it altered but still one of my best finds.)

I think it's partly because I've raised my game. I'm a lot more systematic now and I've realised it's no longer enough just to look in the affluent neighbourhoods - e.g. access to car parking is equally important round here. But also, from listening to volunteers, the quality of donations has improved. People tiring of Ebay possibly?

I agree prices have gone up but I don't mind when it's genuinely good stuff.

Stella Maccartney bag for 15 quid

Brand new. I rushed next door from BHF to check it was authentic in the swanky store, which it is. Surprisingly roomy, goes with everything.

whataboutbob · 31/03/2018 22:00

Aaaaaaah charity shops. Some of my fondest memories are of going round jumble sales with my mum ( remember jumble sales?). My best CS finds:
A beautiful 1950s dress in a shell pattern for £1 in the 90s in Hammersmith
A 1950s swingy jacket which works brilliantly with jeans
A vintage StMichaels men’s dressing gown in a colour scheme which really flatters me
A Brora cashmere waistcoat for about £12 which was a bit too big around my bust so I gave it to my better endowed best friend.
Recently was in an area of London I’d never browsed before and I think I hit charity shop gold. My late mum would have been proud.

whataboutbob · 31/03/2018 22:03

Flo- a Margaret Howell coat for £12Envy!

Anextrapint · 31/03/2018 22:24

A long navy wool Aquascutum coat, £19.99! Needs the cuff buttons & the very top button replacing, and I already have some spare scarlet buttons in the right size, I couldn’t believe it when I found it. In the more rubbish of the local charity shops too Wink

This is just off oxford street, I used to pop in there all the time but never found anything, because all the good stuff had always gone 🙄

KimchiLaLa · 31/03/2018 22:29

I live in a pretty straight down the line middle class area and the ones near me are full of tat. They used to have great finds - once found some YSL sunglasses and a vintage real gold necklace - now everything is primark and matalan. I'm not sure why - I wonder if the people who work there are grabbing the best stuff. I went to one recently in Knightsbridge which had ok stuff but was very generously priced. I know I should give up looking but I long for the days when I used to find some steals....
