Blond hair dye that you can leave mixed

This might seem strange as if things have moved on in the ten years since I last home dyed then it's a daft question!
I want to dye my hair blonde using a home dye. When I've used blonde dyes previously they only last for that dye. Are there any you can buy that you can use repeatedly so can use for root touch ups every so often rather than buying the full dye?

You could mix a part of the dye in a bowl, and then save the remainder for root touch ups?

The was a ready made dye that you could use whatever you wanted out of it, it was like a mousse, but I haven't seen it lately.

I don't think it would last if I mixed it up though, they go funny in a few hours don't they?
That mousse one looks good, cheers

this but I go to a salon at the moment so haven't really used this regularly - can't really give a product review.

Mousse reviews really badly sadly

I noticed that, I loved it Confused

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 21/05/2016 19:43

Have you used it then? I'm perplexed by the reviews about it not sticking - don't blonde dyes bleach your hair?

OP posts:

Yes thought I use the dark one. I have very short hair and only need a small amount.
I dont think blondes bleach it unless you get one that says it lightens it.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 21/05/2016 20:31

Really? Oh. I assumed if it was a blonde permanent dye that meant it lightened your hair. Hmm.

When I use home hair dye I just mix half the colour and developer together in a bowl, dye my roots (I apply with a brush, not the bottle it comes with), then seal up the 2 containers to keep for next time. As long as it's unmixed it keeps. And it's pretty easy to judge half or a third of each bottle/tube - it doesn't need to be so accurate. Would that work for you?

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 22/05/2016 11:07

Now sesame that is a great idea! It's so obvious and yet I hadn't thought about it! Cheers

The developer is peroxide which lightens or 'lifts' your hair, this is true for light or dark dyes

I always just used half the amount in the pack when I had short hair, as long as you use roughly equal amounts of tint and developer it'll be fine

glassgarden · 22/05/2016 11:14

Some blond dyes have stronger peroxide developer to lighten the hair more than the 20 volume peroxide which you get in most home dyes
