Doublewear - what am I doing wrong?

After hearing about how great this stuff is I got a tester sample at the weekend.

I've tried applying it with a damp beauty blender and with my fingers but it just looks so caked on.

Is there a trick to it? I need full coverage but don't want to look like I'm wearing a mask.

I've got oily skin not dry so it's not a problem with it sticking to dry skin.

I thought I wanted full coverage but maybe I don't. I'll swing by the counter tomorrow and see if they'll give me a sample of the light one.

Do you need full coverage? I found it is quite mask like on friends as there is no dimension to the face once on.
Have you tried a thin tinted moisturiser and then a thicker heavier concealer? Am quoting Lisa Eldridge here!

Hi OP, just read the thread and noticed you were matched with something more pink than you'd normally go for. I was matched 3 times, each time to a different colour (I went the 3 different counters). I wasn't testing the workers and each time would tell them the trouble I had with the match before. The 1st 2 gave me pink based samples but the last one tried a neutral on me. I suddenly started getting lots of people telling me how well I looked. You might try that?

As fare cakeyness (and the fab WI comment!). I'm not an expert makeup user and can get this wrong so I want to ask. When you're building up coverage - what's the technique for this? I've timed myself in the morning and I think I'm spending as much time on my foundation as I am on my hair, about 10 min each! I think that's a long time for the small pat out - any tips? Should I just google?

If it goes cakey it means you're putting too much on. Try putting less on and using a brush to blend it in.
