Wedding Outfit for a 9 year old boy with sensory issues

Wasn't sure where to put this one to be honest! My DS has ASD and accompanying sensory issues. He is also a fair bit overweight (wearing 12 year old clothes). The only things he wears are jogging bottoms and tshirts with hoodies and trainers.

In 2 weeks time we have a family wedding to attend and I have no idea how to dress him! He needs to look fairly smart but anything smart does not have an elasticated waist band and tends to be made out of stiff material.

Help!

Compromise with new black jogging bottoms, black trainers and a soft flannel type shirt, untucked? Or if he'd tolerate them, chinos with elastic waist which you can get at M&S or online places like Cottom Traders. More difficult if you feel it has to be a suit.

I bought some elasticated waist linen jogging bottoms in the John Lewis sale a week or so ago. Would they be soft enough?

Might he cope with something like this? Maybe with a plain white tshirt under for comfort.

What sort of shoes can he manage?

I think new black joggers and a soft shirt may work?

On another point if it's a family wedding dies he need to be very smart? Wouldn't they rather he was comfortable? Most weddings I've been to children have been wearing the full range from full on kilt outfits through to jeans and a t shirt depending on what they wanted to wear.

Mind you I've never been to a very posh wedding so maybe that explains the relaxed attitude

Does verbaduet still exist they had amazing unstructured formal clothes.

If he wears school uniform then this may be suitable without the jumper? My asd son wore his school pants and school polo shirt for my brothers wedding x

Or as a PP suggested his school trousers? Or a compromise he can change after official photos are done?

He wears jogging bottoms for school too - plain black ones so he gets away with it (well they pander to us ). I like the idea that maybe he could wear a pair with a soft shirt and a waistcoat or something though. Now to find a soft shirt. Thanks for the ideas so far - will take a look at all the links :)

Good quality vests have made a huge difference to what my DS1 (also has ASD) will tolerate wearing top-wise. Next have some nice polo tops - if he'd tolerate a cardigan I think he'd look quite kid-smart ikywim.
Hope you find a workable outfit for him.

grey stretch jersey waistcoat here, if you're fancying one. Maybe with navy joggers and a navy and white or red and white striped tshirt.

A light knitted tank top would be more comfy though. Like this sort of thing which might well work over the bits from my first post
