Challenge!! - to find a rash guard swimsuit (high neck / with sleeves) that is not hideous

Right a challenge!!

I'll be going to Greece for our summer holidays and will probably be spending a lot of time in the pool. My family's had a lot of skin cancer so I don't want to be worrying the whole trip about reapplying suncream - so I want something a bit like kids wear i.e. covering up chest, shoulders and upper arms.

But they all look so frumpy :(. Can anyone find me a good one? Am 43 and size 12.

Fatface? You can coordinate with swimwear.

dun1urkin · 14/05/2016 21:46

Ooh I saw some of these in a magazine recently. Going to guess Grazia.
Hang on...

dun1urkin · 14/05/2016 21:47

Yep, Grazia

HOW do they come on and off? I love the idea of these but I just don't see how I'd get out of it!

bibblebobblebubble · 14/05/2016 22:07

Thanks for quick replies. This from Fatface maybe? though not very summery colours. Think the Grazia ones are a little too way-out for me, I don't want to be too conspicuous.

That's nice. There are a few on here, too www.surfdome.com/Womens_Rash_Vests-496/

Ilikesweetpeas · 14/05/2016 22:13

Try mountain warehouse, I got a surprisingly lovely one from there last year

issynoho · 14/05/2016 22:14

Lands End?

bibblebobblebubble · 14/05/2016 22:15

Thanks for the link - maybe this Billabong one but with black bikini bottoms rather than the dodgy shorts?

tiny pic - link to it here

Seafolly do them, there are a few here on Zalando but I think they do a much greater range: m.zalando.co.uk/womens-swimwear-rash-vests-lycras/seafolly/

MrsLettuce · 14/05/2016 22:22

I like this one

What is your budget?

TheSpottedZebra · 14/05/2016 22:25

I love that one, bbb

bibblebobblebubble · 14/05/2016 22:27

Thanks for the links. MrsLettuce I like that design but prefer one that's a full vest covering stomach too. Budget - would be ok spending up to £60 or thereabouts for the top + bikini bottom to go with it.

Seafolly ones don't cover upper arms which I'm after.

Any views on the Billabong one?

O'Neill do some too. TK Maxx often have branded ones.

Cristiane · 15/05/2016 08:41

Sweaty Betty have some nice ones in their new catalogue

Stevie77 · 15/05/2016 08:45

Have you checked Gap?

specialsubject · 15/05/2016 10:11

How can a tight rashie be frumpy? Go cheap as they get wrecked in pools, and black is obviously daft.

Wear boardies which dry quickly and look good, no more soggy bikini knickers.

carrie74 · 15/05/2016 14:16

I've got one from Gap Factory in US, so worth looking there (also Old Navy). J Crew always had them. Decathlon does them super cheap and plain.

Whoever asked how you get them in and off: they're very stretchy, not like wetsuits.

bibblebobblebubble · 15/05/2016 21:17

Ooh been out all day & lots more ideas

I've ordered the Billabong one as stock was getting low but I like the look of some of the O'Neill ones, like this one, so if the Billabong's no good I'll try there.

This might sound a silly question but.... what does one wear underneath? Just bikini bottoms, or a full swimsuit, or bikini bottoms and top? If just bikini bottoms don't certain things (ahem) jiggle a bit?

I wear a bikini under mine - makes going to the loo easier, and keeps your modesty up top.

specialsubject · 16/05/2016 12:00

don't wear a one-piece as you'll need to get naked to go to the toilet. If you wear a bikini top you can change out of the rash vest and into a t-shirt and stay covered if that bothers you. The rash vest is only for wearing while swimming, if you keep it on you'll get chilled at first, and then too hot as it dries. Switch to a t-shirt.

the bikini top will show through but so what.

bikini bottoms or boardies below - the latter dry quicker and stay in place.

PerspicaciaTick · 16/05/2016 12:07

Landsend has some - I quite like the ones with the tunic necklines as they are less obviously rash guards.

And Decathlon do some UVF protection T-shirts which are cut like a regular T-shirt and are a good price so you could buy several.
